#2 St. Cloud State Falls at #17 Denver, 5-2

The #2 St. Cloud State University men's hockey team (12-3-3, 7-2-1-0 NCHC) lost a 5-2 decision at #17 University of Denver (11-7-4, 5-4-1-1 NCHC) on Saturday, Jan. 11 at Magness Arena in Denver. Colo.
The loss ended a nine-game road win streak for the Huskies and it also marked the most goals allowed in a game by the Huskies in 2013-14.
Denver wasted little time in setting the game's tempo with a goal by Quentin Shore at :52 of the first period. He was assisted on the play by Ty Loney and Matt Tabrum. Denver stretched its lead to 2-0 with a goal at 9:12 of the first period with a power play marker by David Makowski. Shore had the lone assist on the play for DU.
The Huskies broke the shutout at 11:12 of the first period with a goal by sophomore forward Jonny Brodzinski, who was assisted on the play by teammates Kalle Kossila and Garrett Milan. This was Brodzinski's team-leading 11th goal of the season and it was also his third goal of the weekend at DU.
In the second period, Gabe Levin pushed DU's lead to 3-1 with the eventual game winner at 1:57. Trevor Moore's goal for Denver at 5:26 made the score 4-1 in the second period.
SCSU broke the Pioneers' scoring run with a power play marker by Jimmy Murray at 12:21. He was set up with a picture perfect pass from Kossila, while the second assist was credited to Ethan Prow. This was Murray's third goal of the season and Kossila's 10th assist of the year. The play also provided Prow with his seventh assist of 2013-14.
To finish the offense, Joey LaLeggia scored on shot from the point at 14:14 of the third period with an assist from Daniel Doremus.
After a slow start, SCSU's controlled the game's tempo in the closing period as the Huskies outshot DU 10-3 in the third period and 17-9 in the second period. Overall, SCSU outshot the Pioneers 37-21 in the game.
On the power play, SCSU was 1-of-5 and DU was 1-of-3 in the game.
Charlie Lindgren made his third start of 2013-14 and was the goalie of record for SCSU. He made nine saves in the game and played 25:26 minutes in the game before being relieved by Ryan Faragher, who made seven saves and allowed one goal in the final 34:34 minutes of play. Sam Brittain made 35 saves for DU and gained the victory.
