Bemidji, Minn. – St. Cloud State women's hockey and Bemidji State University ended their series together Saturday, Jan. 11 from the Sanford Center. A late goal by Bemidji upset the Huskies chance of a sweep with a final score of 2-1.
The first period of the game was a scoreless one as both goalies and defenses made some big stops. Bemidji State almost took the lead with five minutes left in the first period as the puck bounced off SCSU's goalie Julie Friend's pads but Audrey Hanmer was there to hit it away keeping it scoreless.
With the end of the first period the Huskies trailed the Beavers in shots on goal by a margin of nine-to-eight.
Defenses continued to hold strong in the second period as a scoreless game held into the second intermission. St. Cloud led the period in shots on goal over Bemidji by a margin of 11-to-6.
It was not until the third period at the Sanford Center when 11:50 mark when the Huskies would take a 1-0 lead over the Beavers. It was senior Julia Gilbert stuffing one home off an assist from senior teammate Molli Mott.
Bemidji State would make it a game, as they tied it up 1-1 at the 16:10 mark of the third off a power-play goal by Rachael Kelly. Bemidji extended their lead 2-1 over St. Cloud as Stephanie Anderson hit a shot into the top of the net over Friend's shoulder at the 17:38 mark.
