Huskies on the Road to #4 North Dakota

St. Cloud, Minn. -Â St. Cloud State women's hockey keeps to the road Jan. 17-18, as they travel to Grand Forks to take on the #4 University of North Dakota. Game times are set for 7:07 p.m. and 2:07 p.m. respectively from the Ralph Engelstad Arena.
THE RECORD: The Huskies hold a 4-17-3 overall record and a 3-13-2-1 record good for 12 points in the ever-grueling WCHA coming into their series against North Dakota. St. Cloud sits tied for sixth place currently in conference standings with Minnesota State.
LAST TIME OUT: The Huskies started a six game road stand this past weekend as they took on the Bemidji State Beavers. St. Cloud took game one by a final score of 3-1, while Bemidji prevailed in game two for the series split, 2-1. Junior forward Abby Ness was outstanding for the Huskies this weekend as she tallied two back-to-back goals in their win, Friday. Ness put St. Cloud on the board at the 3:47 mark of the second period for a 1-1 game and then came back just six minutes later for a 2-1 Husky lead. Molli Mott sealed the Huskies fate on an empty-net goal with only :19 seconds left in the game winning 3-1. Senior Julia Gilbert earned two assists in the game as she assisted Ness on her first goal and Mott on the empty-netter. On Saturday it was a scoreless game until just over midway through the third period when SCSU's Gilbert fired a shot into the back of the net for a 1-0 lead off an assist by Mott. Recording double duty this weekend between the pipes was junior Julie Friend. Friend backstopped the Huskies with an impressive 44 saves to earn the win Friday and 38 saves on Saturday. With the series split Friend moves her record to 3-10-2 on the season.

All-Time Series: North Dakota leads the all-time series with St. Cloud as they hold a 22-19-5 record coming into this weekend's series that dates back to Dec. 14, 2002, their first series together in Grand Forks. Â
Ranking: UND is currently ranked third in the WCHA standings with 33 points. In national polls North Dakota is ranked #4 in the USCHO poll and in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll.
Leaders: Senior Michelle Karvinen and junior Josefine Jakobsen, both with 19 points, lead North Dakota's scoring efforts so far this season. Karvinen has recorded 11 goals and eight assists in her 16 games played, while Jakobsen has seven goals and 12 assists in 20 games played. UND's sophomore Meghan Dufault and freshman Susanna Tapani closely follow as they each have tallied 18 points so far this season.
PREVIOUS MEETINGS: St. Cloud and UND met earlier this season on Oct. 25-26 in Brooks Center where North Dakota took the series, winning 2-1 and 6-1. UND has a 14-game win streak going over the Huskies, which include four wins during the 2012-13 campaign. The Huskies have not won in the Ralph since Jan. 15, 2010 when they defeated UND 2-1, so the Huskies are looking to turn the streak around this weekend.Â
