Grand Forks, N.D. – St. Cloud State women's hockey took to the road again Jan. 17 for a WCHA series as they traveled to take on the #4 University of North Dakota. St. Cloud was shutout by UND, 4-0.
Getting underway in the first period the Huskies defense was strong breaking up passes by North Dakota and making huge saves in the net to keep it a scoreless game. It was not until eight seconds left on the clock that scoring would change as UND took a 1-0 lead on a power-play goal by Josefine Jakobsen. Jakobsen shot from the left face-off circle on a pass by Meghan Dufault.
In second period at the Ralph Engelstad Arena it was all UND as they moved their lead to 3-0 over St. Cloud. UND took a 2-0 lead just 1:36 into the period on an even-strength goal by Gracen Hirschy. They would then take the game to a 3-0 lead at the 13:17 mark with a short-handed goal by Andrea Dalen.
North Dakota led shots on goal in the first two periods with a total of 25-to-9. The Huskies were getting some looks at the net but just could not get a bounce to go their way for a goal.
UND sealed a 4-0 victory over SCSU at the 12:29 mark of the third period for the game shutout. North Dakota finished the game outshooting the Huskies by a final margin of 37-to-16.
SCSU's Julie Friend was the goalie of record in Friday's match-up against North Dakota as she posted 33 saves, while UND's Lexie Shaw tallied 16 saves for the win. Friend now sees her record move to 3-11-2 on the season.
