St. Cloud State soccer edged in OT by Mary

St. Cloud, Minn. - The St. Cloud State University soccer team (4-9-0, 3-7-0 NSIC) lost a tough 2-1 decision in overtime against the University of Mary (4-6-3, 3-5-2 NSIC) on Friday, Oct. 17 at Husky Stadium in St. Cloud, Minn.
The Huskies were victims of two penalty shots by the Marauders, which helped them gain the victory. In the first half, Mary's Zara O'Hagan scored on a penalty kick at 22:24. The goal gave Mary a 1-0 lead going into the first intermission.
In the second half, SCSU outshot the Marauders 13-3 and dominated play. SCSU's Taige Thoreson finally broke the shutout for the Huskies with a goal at 85:27 as Mackenzie Winters was credited with the assist. This was Thoreson's team-leading fourth goal of the season.
Both squads battled to a 1-1 tie at the end of regulation before O'Hagan won the game at 101:22 of the game on another penalty kick.
In the contest, SCSU outshot Mary by a 25-10 margin and the Huskies edged the Marauders in corner kicks 11-2. Kenzie Hanzlik had one save in the game for SCSU, while Shelby Buttron brought home the goalie win with seven saves.
The Huskies will complete their NSIC weekend with a 1 p.m. game on Sunday, Oct. 19 against Minot State at Husky Stadium in St. Cloud, Minn. Tickets are available at the game. All SCSU students get in free to the game. Just show you ID card at the gate and come on in.
