#15/16 St. Cloud State men's hockey drops 3-2 decision to #2/3 UND

St. Cloud, Minn. - The #15/16 St. Cloud State University men's hockey team lost a close 3-2 match against #2/3 University of North Dakota on Saturday, Nov. 22 at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St. Cloud, Minn.
The loss moves SCSU's season tally to 5-6-1, 2-3-1 NCHC, while UND improves to 9-3-1, 4-2-0 NCHC in 2014-15. The Huskies will continue their 2014-15 season with a pair of road games at non-conference opponent Bemidji State on Nov. 28-29.
The Huskies were the victims of two quick goals in the first period and were not able to recover despite outscoring UND 2-1 in the final 44 minutes of the contest.
UND scored first with a goal by Trevor Olson at 2:53 of the first period. North Dakota stretched its lead to 2-0 with a goal by Brendan O'Donnell at 4:10 of the first period, which included assists from Colten St. Clair and Jordan Schmaltz.
The Huskies charged back into the mix with an even-strength goal by Patrick Russell at 5:05 of the first period. He was assisted on the play by Jimmy Murray. This was Russell's third goal of the season and it was Murray's fifth assist of 2014-15.
Olson added the eventual game winner at 5:52 of the second period with assists from Troy Stecher and Austin Poganski that made the score 3-1. The Huskies ended the night's scoring at 13:29 of the second period with a marker by Joey Benik. The solo assist on the play was charted by Niklas Nevalainen.
In the contest, UND outshot the Huskies 39-29 as Charlie Lindgren turned in another sterling effort between the pipes with 36 saves. Zane McIntyre posted 27 saves for UND in the contest. Both squads were 0-3 on the power play during the game.
