#16 St. Cloud State charts 6-3 win at Bemidji State

Bemidji, Minn. - The #16 St. Cloud State University men's hockey team (6-6-1) opened its weekend road trip with a 6-3 victory over Bemidji State University (3-10-0) on Friday, Nov. 28 at the Sanford Center in Bemidji, Minn. on Nov. 28. The Huskies trailed 1-0 at the end of the first period but rallied with two goals in the second and four in the final period to bring back the win.
In the opening period, BSU gained a 1-0 lead with a goal by Myles Fitzgerald at 2:26 of the period. The Huskies tied the game in the early minutes of the second period with a breakaway goal by junior Jimmy Murray at 1:46 with a solo assist credited to Kalle Kossila. This was Murray's first goal of the 2014-15 season, while it marked Kossila's team-leading eighth assist of the year.
BSU replied at 2:03 of the second period with a goal by Nate Arentz that gave the Beavers a 2-1 lead. Once more, the Huskies rallied at 6:46 of the second period with a goal by Andrew Prochno, which was his third of the season. Assists on the play were credited to Tim Daly and Daniel Tedesco, which were the first points of the season for these two Huskies.
The Huskies finally gained a lead in the third period with a goal by Joey Benik at 2:54 of the period. Prochno issued the lone assist on the play, which was Benik's seventh goal of the season. The Beavers tied the game for the final time of the evening at 6:17 with a power play goal by Gerry Fitzgerald that made it 3-3.
The deadlock was shortlived as the Huskies' Daly netted the game winner at 8:44 of the third just as the Beavers had killed a penalty. Assists on the Daly's goal were added by Blake Winiecki and David Morley. This was Daly's first goal of the 2014-15 campaign and it was Winiecki first assist as a Husky.
In the closing minute of play, the Huskies iced the game with a pair of goals. Jonny Brodzinski notched his eighth goal of the season at 19:31 of the third period with an unassisted empty net goal on the power play. The offensive attack finished with a goal in the closing seconds of the game by Brooks Bertsch at 19:52 of the third. Bertsch tapped in a rebound off of Joe Rehkamp's shot, which was his first assist of the year. The second assist was issued to captain Nick Oliver.
On the night, SCSU outshot the Beavers 29-19 and both teams were 1-of-3 on the power play in the game. Charlie Lindgren earned the victory in the nets for SCSU with 16 saves in the contest, while BSU's Michael Bitzer had 23 saves for the Beavers.
The Huskies and Beavers will complete this weekend series with a 7:07 p.m. game at the Sanford Center on Saturday, Nov. 29.
