Levandoski leads Huskies to 69-66 NSIC opening win over Minnesota Duluth

St. Cloud, Minn. – Kevin Levandoski made two free throws and Scottie Stone made a last second steal to secure a 69-66 St. Cloud State win over the University of Minnesota Duluth in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) opener for both teams.

St. Cloud State improved to 3-2 overall, 1-0 in the NSIC. The Bulldogs dropped to 3-4 overall and 0-1 in the NSIC.
The Huskies trailed 62-61 after UMD's Brett Ervin hit a jumper with 4:06 left in the game. The Huskies took the lead at 3:14 on a Jordan Poydras basket in the paint and went up by three, 65-62 with 1:14 left on a Levandoski layup. Ervin answered with a layup to pull the Bulldogs to within one point, 65-64 with :59 seconds left. UMD fouled Chuckie Smith at the :08 mark and Smith made both free throws to stretch the lead to three, 67-64. Ervin answered again with a layup and sent the Huskies Levandoski to the line with 1.3 seconds on the clock. After the made free throw, Scottie Stone stole the inbounds pass to preserve the win.
St. Cloud State will host Crossroads College (Rochester, Minn.) in a non-conference game on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in Halenbeck Hall.
Huskies Tip-ins
Levandoski led all players with 17 points and five assists. He was six of 12 from the field and made all five of his free throw attempts. He also had three steals.
Smith had four points in the game, the first of the season for the sophomore who redshirted last season.
Stone scored 13 points and made three of four three-point attempts. He finished the game with two steals.
Donnel Cegers and James Fort each had six points and seven rebounds. Fort was three of six from the field, had two assists, two steals and a block.
The Huskies made nine of nine free throw attempts in the game and shot 42.9 percent from the field.
St. Cloud State forced 18 UMD turnovers and held a 33-31 rebounding edge.
The win was the first NSIC victory for Huskies first-year head coach Matt Reimer.
Bulldog Notes
Four players scored in double figures for the Bulldogs led by Brett Ervin with a game high 20 points.
Pierre Newton notched 13 points and a team high seven rebounds.
Taylor Lavery scored 14 points and Reece Zoelle ten points.
The Bulldogs shot 62.5 percent from the field in the first half and finished the game at 53.1 percent. UMD hit 44.4 percent from three-point range.
