Huskies to host #17 Minnesota Duluth at the HBNHC
The #6/7 St. Cloud State University men's hockey team (3-3-0, 0-0-0-0 NCHC) will kick off the defense of its National Collegiate Hockey Conference regular season crown with a pair of league games against #17 University Minnesota Duluth (4-4-0 2-2-0 NCHC). On Friday, Nov. 7, the Huskies will host the Gophers at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center (5,371 cap./200x100) at 7:37 p.m. The Huskies will complete the weekend series against the Bulldogs on Saturday, Nov. 8 with a 7:07 p,m, game at the HBNHC. The game on Nov. 7 will be televised live on Fox Sports North Plus and Fox College Sports. The game on Nov. 8 will be televised live on Charter Cable's SCSU Sports Network. Fans can listen to both games on KCML FM 99.9 (www.lite999.com) and KVSC FM 88.1 (www.kvsc.org). Fans can watch the Oct. 31 game on the web at NCHC.tv Â
WINTER CLOHTING DRIVE SET FOR NOV. 8: A winter clothing drive will be held in conjunction with the SCSU-UMD men's hockey game on Saturday, Nov. 8. Fans attending the game are encouraged to bring new or gently used hats, mittens, coats, scarves and other winter clothing for donation that night. All donations will be given to local programs that assist individuals and families who are homeless or are at-risk of being homeless.  More than 325 school age children in Central MN experienced homelessness last year. This means they did not have a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence. The drive is being sponsored by SCSU and The United Way of Central Minnesota.

GOPHER SPLIT: SCSU split a weekend series against number one ranked Minnesota. On Oct. 31, the Huskies posted a 4-1 win at home against the Gophers. On Nov. 1, SCSU pushed the game to OT but lost a close 4-3 game at Mariucci Arena. The game on Oct. 31 was the first loss of the season for the top ranked Gophers.
BREAKING THE ICE: In the Huskies' first six games of the season, St. Cloud State has faced three teams ranked among the nation's top five programs. The schedule will not get any easier as the Huskies' upcoming schedule will include dates against top 17 opponents Minnesota Duluth and North Dakota. Â
NCHC PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Junior blueliner Ethan Prow was named the NCHC Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts against UM. Prow charted his first goal of the season on Nov. 1 and also had two assists in the Huskies' 4-1 win on Oct. 31. He added two blocks to the cause over the weekend for the Huskies. In his career, Prow has played in 83 games with 8g/34a to his credit. He is a resident of nearby Sauk Rapids, Minn. and a grad of Sauk Rapids-Rice High School.
JONNY ON THE SPOT: Junior Jonny Brodzinski charted one goal and two assists in the Huskies' 4-1 win over #1 Minnesota on Oct. 31. Brodzinski currently leads the club with four goals and seven points. He has played in 86 consecutive games with the Huskies and has not missed a game during his collegiate career. Brodzinski continues his march toward the Huskies' 100-point club with 47 goals and 34 assists to his credit over the past three seasons. He paces the Huskies this season with 29 shots on goal.
FIRST TIME IN 2014-15: The Huskies were outshot by their opponent for the first time this season on Nov. 1. Minnesota outshot the Huskies 35-14 in that contest, which is the fewest shots posted in a game by the Huskies since a 3-2 loss against the Gophers at home on Jan. 28, 2012. Overall, the Huskies have outshot their opponents 185-165 during the current 2014-15 season.
GREAT EFFORT IN GOAL: Sophomore netminder Charlie Lindgren improved to 3-3-0 on the season with his weekend of work. Lindgren made a combined total of 62 saves in the two games against Minnesota and allowed only four even-strength goals against the Gophers in the two games. Lindgren's 2014-15 goals against average stands at 2.72 with a .905 save percentage to his credit.
PILING UP POINTS: Andrew Prochno posted his 78th career point with his 15th career goal on Nov. 1 at Minnesota. Prochno moves ahead of SCSU legend Bret Hedican on the Huskies' defenseman scoring charts. Hedican had 77 points from the blueline from 1988-91. Next up on that career defensive list is current SCSU assistant coach Garrett Raboin, who had 83 career points from 2006-10 and ranks fifth on the list. The list is topped by Kelly Hultgren with 107 career points (1991-95). He is the lone SCSU defenseman in the Huskies' 100-point club...Morley had the game winner on Oct. 31, which marks his sixth game winning goal as a Husky...rookie Blake Winiecki leads the Huskies on the plus/minus this season at +2...Bob Motzko is 19-8-3 in game played against UMD during his coaching career at SCSU...SCSU currently ranks 8th in the nation on the power play this season at 24.1% (7-of-29) and UMD ranks 9th in the nation at 24.0% (12-of-50).
NCHC CHAMPIONS: St. Cloud State University captured the inaugural regular season championship of the NCHC in 2013-14. The Huskies finished the year with a first place mark of 15-6-3-0 in the always rugged NCHC. SCSU posted 48 league points to win the Penrose Trophy, while North Dakota trailed in second place with 45 points. This marked the second consecutive season that SCSU has won a regular season conference title. In 2013, the Huskies won the WCHA regular season championshp.Â
