Huskies Sweep RPI with 3-0 Win

Troy, NY----St. Cloud State (5-4-1, 2-1-1 WCHA) gained their first sweep of the 2014-15 season after a 3-0 win against RPI (1-8-2, 0-2-0 ECAC) on Saturday, Nov. 8.Â
The Huskies took the lead when SCSU was awarded a power play at 8:33 in the first. Junior defense, Lexi Slattery, capitalized when she came down from the blue line to put the loose puck in and score her 4th goal this season. Assist were awarded to Abby Ness and Molly Illikainen.Â
SCSU's lead was extended when right wing junior, Vanessa Spataro, scored her first goal this year after she sent a shot past the goalie at 11:21 of the second period. Assists were awarded to defense Audrey Hanmer and forward Amanda Arbogast.Â
Shortly after at 13:58, Abby Ness got her second assist of the game when she won the battle in the corner and fed line mate Molly Illikainen a pass. Illikainen put it in the net to score her 7th goal this year. Kelsey Saelens got the second assist and her first of the season. Illikainen has tallied 4 points this series on 6 total goals and now leads the Huskies with 7 goals 4 assists and 11 total points.Â
SCSU was given 5 power play opportunities and went to the box 6 times. They scored 1 power play goal and let zero past them on the penalty kill. They have a weekend total of 2 goals in 9 power plays and killed of all 11 penalties this series.Â
Katie Fitzgerald got her first win of her junior year with a shutout against the Engineers. She faced 8 shots in 60 minutes of play and moved her record to 1-2-1, 0-1-1 WCHA.Â
