#7 St. Cloud State falls 4-3 to #4 North Dakota

In a battle of two top 10 ranked college hockey teams, the #7 St. Cloud State University men's hockey team (8-3-0, 4-1-0 NCHC) lost a 4-3 decision at home against #4 University of North Dakota (10-1-2, 5-0-0 NCHC) on Friday, Nov. 20 at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St. Cloud, Minn.
The Huskies outshot the Fighting Hawks 38-26 in the contest but UND was able to take advantage of two power play goals to gain the upper hand in the game. SCSU gained an early lead in the contest with a goal by Judd Peterson at 2:20 of the first period. Peterson's seventh goal of the season was assisted by Patrick Newell and Jon Lizotte.
North Dakota rallied with a goal by Drake Caggiula at 6:20 of the second period, which included assists by Troy Stretcher and Nick Schmaltz. Caggiula hit again at 13:37 of the first period with a power play goal that was assisted by Rhett Gardner and Schmaltz, which made the score 2-1.
In the second period, UND stretched its lead to 3-1 with a power play marker by Gardner at 5:48. Brock Boeser and Stecher each had assists on the play. The Huskies closed the gap to 3-2 with a power play goal by Jimmy Murray at 16:29 of the second period. David Morley and Jimmy Schuldt each provided assists on the play, which was Murray's fourth goal of the campaign.
To complete the game, North Dakota's Caggiula earned his hat trick at :28 of the third period with his third goal of the game as Christian Wolani and Schmaltz each provided assists on the goal that made it 4-2. SCSU battled back into contention later in the period with a goal by Morley as assists on the play were added by Murray and Niklas Nevalainen. The Huskies pulled their goalie late in the contest but were unable to convert with the extra attacker as UND iced the final at 4-3.
In the game, SCSU outshot the Fighting Hawks 38-26. On the power play, SCSU was 1-5 and UND was 2-3 in the game.
Netminder Charlie Lindgren had 22 saves in the game for the Huskies as his season record falls to 7-3-0 with the loss. Matt Hrynkiw made 35 saves in the game for North Dakota.
