Abby Ness Reflects on Her Time with the Huskies

St. Cloud, Minn. --- Abby Ness came from a small town in Northern Minnesota where hockey is everyone's favorite pass time. Ness was a standout hockey player for the Roseau Rams and was recognized early on when she made the USA under 18 team. She went on to compete in Stockholm Sweden, where USA took home first place for the third time since the IIHF World Women's U18 Championship Tournament was introduced, in 2008. Ness came to St. Cloud as a freshman in 2011 and was welcomed by her new teammates who would quickly become her friends.
Â
Ness has been within the top five leading scorers on St. Cloud State since she arrived in her freshman year. She has never missed a game in her college career and was voted by her teammates to represent her team as captain in her last year representing the Huskies.
As her time at St. Cloud State come to an end, Ness looks back at opportunity she was given to play Division 1 College Hockey in the WCHA.
Â
To my freshman self: I would tell myself not to wish time away and enjoy every moment of this journey. For women hockey players you only have four years of college hockey and then you're done. You have to take advantage of the opportunities you are given and make the best out of the time you have because it goes fast and it is one of the best experiences I have fortunately been able to be apart of.
Â
Advice: Have as much fun as you possibly can. Take in every moment and every experience. Make as many memories as you can throughout these four years and don't take anything for granted.
Â
What I've learned: Over the past few years I have learned how important it is to have respect, set goals and believe in yourself. It has been great being able to be apart of 22 individuals working towards the same goal. Everything that I have been able to learn in sports will help me in accomplish things in the real world.
Â
Favorite Memory: My favorite memory would have to be our tournament in Vail, Colorado. We were lucky enough to travel there as a team and enjoy that experience together. That is one memory I will never forget.
Â
Ness, and the rest of the Huskies, will travel to Madison, Wisconsin to compete in their last regular season series on Feb. 20-22.
