St. Cloud State rolls to 7-3 win at Colorado College

Colorado Springs, Colo. - The #13 St. Cloud State University men's hockey team (5-4-0, 1-2-0 NCHC) used seven different players to score goal in its convincing 7-3 victory at Colorado College (5-4-0, 1-2-0 NCHC) on Friday, Nov. 11 in Colorado Springs, Colo.
The victory was SCSU's first NCHC win of the 2016-17 season and it also snapped a two-game losing skid for the #13 ranked Huskies. SCSU and Colorado College will complete their two game series at the World Arena at 8:07 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 12. Fans can listen to the game live on REV 96.7 FM with Jim Erickson on the call.
In a game that saw SCSU outshot 23-19 by the Tigers, the Huskies opened their efficient offensive effort in the first period with a goal by sophomore blueliner Jon Lizotte at 8:37 with assists from Ryan Poehling and Niklas Nevalainen. The Huskies padded their lead to 2-0 with a power play goal by Mikey Eyssimont at 10:14 of the first. Patrick Newell and Jack Ahcan had assists on the play, which was Eyssimont's fourth goal of the season.
SCSU's Jack Poehling made it 3-0 with his goal at 12:57 of the first period. Jimmy Schuldt and Judd Peterson each had assists on the play.
In the second period, the Huskies stretched their lead to 4-0 with a power play marker by Ahcan at 10:14 wth assists from Robby Jackson and Jacob Benson. The goal proved to be the eventual game winner but it wasn't the end of SCSU offensive output.
At 13:17 of the second period, Schuldt added a shorthanded goal to make it 5-0. Peterson had the solo assist on the play, which was Schuldt's first goal of the new season and it was his first SHG as a Husky.
CC finally broke the shutout in the second period with a power play goal at 14:11 by Sam Rothstein. The Tigers narrowed the gap to 5-2 with a goal by Cole McCaskill at 4:18 of the third period. The rally was short lived as Peterson scored his team-leading seventh goal of the year at 4:41 of the third period. Nick Poehling had the lone assist on the play for the Huskies.
