St. Cloud State falls to North Dakota, 3-0

St. Cloud, Minn. - The #12 St. Cloud State University men's hockey team (6-6-0, 2-4-0 NCHC) lost a 3-0 decision against North Dakota (7-4-2, 2-3-1 NCHC) before 5,196 fans at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St.Cloud, Minn. on Saturday, Nov. 19.
The Fighting Hawks gained the game winner in the first period with a power play goal by Rhett Gardner at 10:35. In the second period, UND extended its lead to 2-0 with a goal by Tucker Poolman at 16:59. To complete the scoring, UND added a power play goal by Shane Gersich at 1:12 of the third period to make the final tally 3-0.
In the contest, SCSU and UND were even on shots at 36 apiece. After being outshot 15-9 in the first period, SCSU charged back and outshot the Fighting Hawks 15-13 in the second period and 12-8 in the final period. On the power play, SCSU was 0-4 and UND was 2-5.
Zach Driscoll was the goalie of record for the Huskies with 33 saves, while Cam Johnson charted his second consecutive shutout with 36 saves in the nets for UND.
The Huskies will enjoy a bye week on Nov. 25-26 before returning to the ice on Dec. 2-3 with a pair of NCHC games at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Mich. Fans can listen to both of these contests on REV 96.7 FM with Jim Erickson on the call.

- This marked the first time that SCSU has been swept at home by North Dakota since dropping two at the HBNHC on Nov. 27-28, 1998.
- The last time that St. Cloud State has suffered back-to-back shutouts was a 4-0 loss at UMD on Feb. 27, 1993 and a 1-0 loss at Minnesota on March 5, 1993.
- Blake Winiecki led the Huskies with five shots on goal in the contest. He ranks third on the team this season with 35 shots on goal. Mikey Eyssimont, who had two SOGs vs. UND leads the team with 49 shots on goal.
- SCSU will return to the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center on Dec. 9-10 for a pair of NCHC games against Omaha. The annual Teddy Bear Toss will take place on Dec. 10. Fans are encouraged to bring a new or gently used Teddy Bear (or stuffed animal) to throw onto the ice during the first intermission of the game on Dec. 10.
