Men’s Hockey Advances To Semifinals of NCHC Frozen Faceoff With 4-2 Victory Over Western Michigan

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The St. Cloud men's hockey team (29-8-1) earned a 4-2 victory over Western Michigan University (8-25-3) in the first round of play in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference tournament Saturday, March 12, at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center. The Huskies advance to the semifinals of the NCHC Frozen Faceoff with the victory.
The Broncos struck first with a goal in the first period at the 11:31 mark as Colt Conrad scored his eighth of the season off the feed from Griffen Molino and Kyle Novak.
The Huskies' offense put up an offensive flurry in scoring three goals in a 1:48 span of time in the second period.
SCSU's three-goal run started with Robby Jackson tying the game at one with his 10th goal of the season off the pass from Jacob Benson and Ethan Prow at the 10:23 mark of the second period.
SCSU scored quickly and sealed the lead on Jimmy Schuldt's ninth goal of the season only 22 seconds later (10:45). The goal was unassisted.
St. Cloud State's David Morley lit the lamp again for SCSU off a pass from Jimmy Murray and Joey Benik at the 12:11 mark of the second stanza. For Morley it was his 13th goal of the season.
The game remained 3-1 until the final 10 seconds of the third period when the Broncos' got a shorthanded goal with the goalie pulled by Chris Dienes off the pass from Molino and Nolan LePorte. Dienes marked his third tally of the season with the goal.
The Huskies completed the scoring with 1.4 seconds remaining in the game on an empty net power-play goal by Patrick Russell for his 19th of the season. Assists were charted to Will Borgen and Kalle Kossila.
