SCSU celebrates a weekend sweep of perennial college hockey power Boston College.
#2/3 St. Cloud State sweeps Boston College with 3-1 win on Oct. 21

The #2/3 St. Cloud State University men's hockey team remained undefeated in 2017-18 with a 3-1 victory over #13 Boston College on Saturday, Oct. 21 at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St. Cloud, Minn.
The victory provided the Huskies with a weekend home sweep against the Eagles and it also improved SCSU's unblemished record this season to 5-0-0, 0-0-0 NCHC, while Boston College moved to 1-3-1, 0-0-0 HE. The 5-0-0 start is SCSU's best start to a season since going 5-0-1 at the start of the 2013-14 campaign.
The Huskies gained the victory on the strength of a dominating first period, which saw SCSU outshoot the Eagles 15-6 and outscored them 3-0. Jack Poehling got the ball rolling at 2:17 of the first period with his power play marker that was assisted by Jack Ahcan and Ryan Poehling. This was Jack Poehling's fourth goal of the season.
Ryan Poehling added the game winner at 12:47 of the first period with his second goal of the season. He wsa assisted on the play by rookie Kevin Fitzgerald and Mikey Eyssimont. Ryan Poehling has now has two goals and eight points for the Huskies this winter. He has scored at least a point in all five games played this season for SCSU.
The SCSU offense was capped by Eyssimont, who charted his first goal of the season at 19:30 of the first on the power play. Jimmy Schuldt and Robby Jackson each had assists on the play. Eyssimont now has 29 career goals and 67 career points at SCSU. Schuldt continues to impress in 2017-18 with an active five game point scoring streak and a team leading 10 points (4g/6a). He ranks second in the nation with a 2.00 points per game scoring rate in 2017-18.
Jackson is also off to a quick start in 2017-18, with points in his last four outings and a total of seven points (3g/4a) this year.
Boston College prevented the shutout in the third period with a goal by JD Dudek at 13:45. The goal was the lone flaw in a sterling game played by rookie netminder David Hrenak. He stopped all 17 shots he faced in the first two period and completed the game with 36 saves. This included a rugged third period when BC outshot the Huskies 20-5.
Special teams were key for the Huskies as they were 2-4 on the power play and a perfect 5-5 on the penalty kill.
The Huskies will now enjoy a bye week on Oct. 27-28 before returning to home ice on Nov. 3 and Nov. 4 for a weekend series against Minnesota Duluth at the HBNHC.
