#2 St. Cloud State men's hockey to face #20 Omaha on Dec. 1-2

 The #2 ranked St. Cloud State University men's hockey team (9-2-0, 4-2-0 NCHC) will faceoff against #20 Omaha (6-5-1, 1-3-0 NCHC) on Dec. 1-2 at Baxter Arena in Omaha, Neb.  The game on Dec. 1 is slated to begin at 7:07 p.m. and the game on Dec. 2 will begin at 7:07 p.m.  The Huskies were idle last weekend, while Omaha played a two-game home series against non-conference rival Northern Michigan.

Jacob BensonIN THE POLLS:  The Huskies received a #2 raning in the 2017-18 USA TODAY/USA Hockey Division I poll on Nov. 13.  SCSU also gained a #2 ranking in the USCHO.com poll this week...St. Cloud State was picked as the #2 team in the 2017-18 preseason NCHC poll.  Of note, the Huskies received votes in the final USCHO.com poll of 2016-17...Omaha was ranked #20 in this week's USCHO.com poll.
TOUGH SCHEDULE: The Huskies will add another nationally ranked opponent to their play list on Dec. 1-2.  Omaha was ranked 20ths in the most recent DI USCHO.com poll released this week.  SCSU owns a 5-2-0 record against nationally ranked teams this season, which includes victories over Minnesota State Mankato, Boston College and Minnesota Duluth..
SUPER START:Â SCSU's 9-2-0 start is the best 11-game start to a season since the Huskies went 8-1-2 to open the 2013-14 season.
SWEEP CITY: Before a bye week on Nov. 24-25, SCSU returned to the win column on Nov. 17-18 with a 6-1 and 5-1 weekend sweep against Colorado College.  The Huskies have earned four weekend series sweeps this season.

BREAKOUT PERFORMANCE: Freshman Easton Brodzinski enjoyed his first multi-point performances of his college career with 1g/1a in both games against CC on Nov. 17-18.  On the season, Brodzinski now has three goals and two assists.  His older brother is former Husky Jonny Brodzinski, who also scored his first NHL goal last weekend for the Los Angeles Kings.
STRONG STRART: Robby Jackson saw his nine-game point scoring streak snapped on Nov. 18.  Jackson had enjoyed nine consecutive games with a point from Oct. 13, 2017 to Nov. 17, 2017.  On the season, Jackson has been impressive with five goals and eight assists to his credit.  He currently ranks second on the club with 13 points.
HOME COOKING: SCSU is undefeated at home this season with an 8-0-0 record at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center this year.  Since the building opened in 1989, the Huskies own a 318-172-54 record at the HBNHC.  The last loss for the Huskies at home was a 2-1 setback against Colorado College on March 4, 2017.Â
NATIONAL LEADER: SCSU's Jimmy Schuldt ranks seventh in the nation with a scoring rate of 1.45 points per game and he also leads all DI defensemen in scoring this season with 16 points (5g/11a).  Schuldt leads the Huskies in all scoring categories this winter with five goals, 11 assists and 16 points.  Of note, the Huskies' evenly spread offense also has Robby Jackson,  Jacob Benson and Jack Poehling with a team leading five goals apiece this winter.  Schuldt also ranks fifth in the nation with 1.00 assists per game this year.
Schuldt also paces the Huskies with an impressive +15 on the all important plus/minus ranking this season.
HEAD OF THE CLASS: The Huskies lead the nation with a scoring rate of 4.27 goals per game and they rank sixth in the country with a defensive rate of 2.18 goals allowed per game.  SCSU's scoring margin of 2.09 goals per game ranks first among NCAA DI teams this season. The Huskies rank fifth in the nation on the power play with a 27.3 percent conversion rate this season (15/55) and second in the country with a .818 winning percentage this season...SCSU also leads the nation with a scoring margin of 2.09 goals per game.
OMAHA NOTEBOOK:  Last year, SCSU scored a 3-1 loss and a 4-2 win over Omaha at the HBNHC on Dec. 9-10, 2016.  The Huskies did not play in Omaha last season...The Huskies' last trip to Omaha resulted in a pair of 6-3 wins on Feb. 19-20, 2016.  SCSU is 3-2-0 in the last five meetings and 8-2 in the last 10 meetings against Omaha.  SCSU is 2-0-0 in play at Omaha's Baxter Arena and 5-6-1 during the series in games played in Omaha since 2011...the Huskies have won their last four games in Omaha dating back to a loss on Dec. 13, 2014... Robby Jackson has 4g/3a and Judd Peterson has 5 goals scored against Omaha during their college careers.
A FEW MORE NOTES:Â Â The Huskies have charted five empty net goals this season, while allowing only one ENG in 2017-18...Jimmy Schuldt leads the club with 22 blocked shots, while Will Borgen ranks second with 19 blocks and Jack Ahcan has 18 blocked shots...SCSU players who have been drafted by NHL teams include Ryan Poehling (Montreal), Mikey Eyssimont (LA Kings), Judd Peterson (Buffalo) and Will Borgen (Buffalo)...a total of nine SCSU players have 8-or-more points this season.
