Men’s Basketball Runs Away From Iowa Wesleyan, 111-68

St. Cloud, Minn. – The St. Cloud State men's basketball team (8-3, 4-1 NSIC) put up the most points for the program in nine years in earning a 111-68 victory over Iowa Wesleyan (1-10) on Tuesday, Dec. 19, at Halenbeck Hall.
Senior Jon Averkamp led the team with 24 points and 13 rebounds. He shot 12 for 13 from the field and had 10 offensive rebounds in the victory. Junior Jace Kitchen scored a career-best 16 points in hitting four threes. He also had three rebounds and three assists in 19 minutes off the bench. Junior Gage Davis totaled 15 points, four rebounds and five assists. Freshman Drew Lewis recorded a career-high 13 points. Junior Sean Smith had 12 points, six rebounds, four assists, two steals and six blocks. Junior Brindley Theisen totaled nine points. Freshman Tristen Hull recorded eight points, seven rebounds and three assists. Sophomore Jake Mussman totaled seven points. Junior Adam Heede-Andersen had a game-high seven assists. Senior Andy Foley had three points, four rebounds, a block and three steals.
Iowa Wesleyan put three players in double figures and were led by 20 points from Brock Butler. He also had seven rebounds. Mitchell Drey totaled 18 points. Elijah Johnson recorded 15 points.
The Huskies shot 55.4 percent from the field (46-for-83), 36.7 percent from three-point range (11-for-30) and 57.1 percent from the free throw line (8-for-14). The team also had 53 rebounds, 33 assists, 10 steals and eight blocks. The program also only turned the ball over seven times and committed just six fouls. IW shot 39.4 percent from the field (26-for-66), 33.3 percent from three-point range (9-for-27) and 87.5 percent from the free throw line (7-for-8).
SCSU never trailed in the game and held a 30-point lead at half time (57-27). The team edged Iowa Wesleyan 54-41 in the final 20 minutes. The Huskies largest lead with 45 points at the 11:59 mark of the second half, 89-44, on a made three from Kitchen.
St. Cloud State men's basketball team now takes a break for Christmas and will next be in action and make a trip to North Dakota to take on Minot State on Saturday, Dec. 30, at 6 p.m. and the University of Mary on Sunday, Dec. 31, at 4 p.m.

- The team is now 4-0 this season when scoring 80 or more points.
- Jon Averkamp has scored 20 or more points in seven games this season and led the team in scoring in nine contests.
