St. Cloud State volleyball to host nationally rated Augustana and Wayne State

A pair of nationally ranked NCAA Division II volleyball teams will battle St. Cloud State University this weekend at Halenbeck Hall in St. Cloud, Minn.  The Huskies (9-2, 2-1 NSIC) will open their NSIC weekend at home on Friday, Sept. 22 with a 6 p.m. match against #12 ranked Augustana (8-4, 0-3 NSIC).  SCSU finishes the weekend with a 1 p.m. match at home against #18 Wayne State College (7-4, 2-1 NSIC) on Saturday, Sept. 23 in Halenbeck.

- The St. Cloud State volleyball team (9-3, 2-1 NSIC) lost a 3-0 match to No. 6 Minnesota Duluth (10-1, 3-0 NSIC) on Tuesday, Sept. 19, at Romano Gym in Duluth. The set scores were 25-10, 25-9 and 25-19. The loss snapped a SCSU three-match winning streak.
- Senior Nicole Miller led the team with her seven kills. She also picked up six digs. Fellow senior >Becca Gruber totaled four kills. Sophomore Clara Krenz recorded 21 digs. Senior Kayla Crane tied for the team lead with her 10 assists. Freshman Maddy Torve also tallied 10 helpers. For the match, SCSU recorded 22 kills, 47 digs, 22 assists and one service ace.
- In 2016, the Huskies lost matches on the road at Augustana by a 3-0 tally and Wayne State by a 3-0 score.
- Becca Gruber leads SCSU this season with 122 kills.  She also has 20 total blocks.  Marah Mulso tops the team with 31 total blocks and ranks fourth on the team with 71 kills.  Of note, Nicole Miller ranks second on the team with 117 kills.  Miller and Clara Krenz leads the team with 16 service aces apiece.
- Kayla Crane is enjoying a solid first year with the program and currently leads the team with 264 sets.  She is a transfer from U. of Sioux Falls.  Rookie Maddy Torve ranks second the team with 191 sets.  Torve is a graduate of Heritage Christian Academy.
- Sophomore libero/defensive specialist Clara Krenz tops the charts for the Huskies this season with 243 digs.
- The Huskies will return to action on Sept. 29 with a road match at #1 Southwest Minnesota State in Marshall. Â On Sept. 30, the Huskies will then travel to the University of Sioux Falls.
