The #3 ranked St. Cloud State University men's hockey team (14-4-3, 8-3-1 NCHC) will celebrate Hockey Day Minnesota in St. Cloud with a 5:00 p.m. non-conference game against #8/9 MInnesota State Mankato (17-7-0, 15-5-0 WCHA) on Saturday, Jan. 20 at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St. Cloud, Minn.

HOCKEY DAY MINNESOTA: The city of St. Cloud will host the 2018 Hockey Day Minnesota on Jan. 20. This day celebrates the sport of hockey in the state of Minnesota and it will include a weekend of fun activities in St. Cloud. On Jan. 19, the SCSU Men's and Women's Hockey Alumni teams will be playing a game on the outdoor rink, which will be set up at Eastman Park on the shores of Lake George in St. Cloud. On Jan. 20, the SCSU women's hockey team will play UMD at the outdoor rink at 1 p.m., while the SCSU-Minnesota State game at 5 p.m. will be played back at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center and featured on Fox Sports North Plus. SKATE WITH THE HUSKIES OUTDOORS: The SCSU men's and women's hockey teams will have an open skate with the public at the Hockey Day Minnesota outdoor rink in Eastman Park on Jan. 20. The teams will be on the ice approximately one hour after the finish of the SCSU-MSU game. The event is free and open to the public.

IN THE POLLS: The Huskies received a #3 ranking in the 2017-18 USA TODAY/USA Hockey Division I poll on Dec. 11. SCSU also gained a #3 ranking in the USCHO.com poll this week...St. Cloud State was picked as the #2 team in the 2017-18 preseason NCHC poll. Of note, the Huskies received votes in the final USCHO.com poll of 2016-17. MSU is ranked #8/9 in both polls this week.
OLYMPIC DREAMS: The USA men's hockey team will feature two SCSU Huskies at the Winter Olympic Games in 2018. Current SCSU blueliner Will Borgen has been selected to the team along with former Husky forward Garrett Roe. Borgen and Roe will join a list of 15 Huskies who have competed in the Olympics. Other former SCSU hockey players to play for Team USA include Bret Hedican (1992 and 2006), Ryan Malone (2010), Mark Parrish (2006), Matt Cullen (2006) and Andreas Nodl (2014). Of note, former Husky hockey player Rikard Gronberg will serve as head coach for Team Sweden at the 2018 Winter Games. Roe played for SCSU from 2007-11 and ranks first in the team records with 113 assists and third with 178 points (65g/113a). He is currently playing professional hockey in Switzerland this winter. Borgen has 1g/7a for the Huskies this season.
THE WEEKEND UPDATE: The Huskies split a weekend home-home series against #11 Western Michigan. On Jan. 12, the Huskies lost a 7-5 match against WMU at the HBNHC and then rallied with a 4-3 win on Jan. 13. In the Friday game, SCSU goals were netted by Robby Jackson (2), Blake Lizotte, Judd Peterson and Blake Winiecki. SCSU outshot the Broncos 31-28 in a game that featured 17 penalties. On the power play, SCSU was 2-10 and WMU was 2-6. David Hrenak suffered the loss in relief of starter Jeff Smith...on Jan. 13, Easton Brodzonski posted the GWG with 15:32 left in the third to lift SCSU to the 4-3 win. Blake Lizotte, Ryan Poehling and Mikey Eyssimont all had goals in the game, with Eyssimont also adding two assists. SCSU outshot WMU 40-16 in the game. Smith gained the win in relief of Hrenak, who missed the end of the game after being hit by a WMU player in the third period. On the power play, SCSU was 1-7 and WMU was 2-2.
RARE EVENT: The loss on Jan. 12 was SCSU's first loss of the year at home and it marked the first time since a 2-1 setback against Colorado College on March 4, 2017. The loss also snapped an 8-game undefeated streak for the Huskies against WMU. In the all-time series, SCSU now owns an 11-4-3 record against the Broncos.
POINT MAN: Junior Mikey Eyssimont moved into the team's point scoring lead this year with 24 points and nine goals. He charted one goal and two assists during the Huskies' 4-3 victory over WMU on Jan. 13. Both Jimmy Schuldt and Robby Jackson have 23 points this season for the Huskies.
IMPRESSIVE: The Huskies rank second in the nation with a 3.95 goals per game average this season. SCSU has outscored its opponents 83-50 this season. On defense, SCSU ranks 11th in the nation with a defensive average of 2.38 goals allowed per game.
COUNTDOWN TO 100: Mikey Eyssimont is now 13 points away from joining SCSU's 100-point club. He has 37g/50a in 96 games played at SCSU.
BALANCED ATTACK: SCSU has 14 players who have 10-or-more points scored this season. SCSU also has three players with 20-plus points this season. Mikey Eyssimont leads the Huskies with 24 points while Robby Jackson and Jimmy Schuldt both have 23 points apiece this season. Jackson and Eyssimont lead the team with nine goals apiece.
HUSKIES vs. MSU: The Huskies will match up for a single game this weekend against non-conference rival Minnesota State Mankato. Earlier this season, the Huskies charted a 4-0 win in Mankato on Oct. 7, 2017...Last year, the Huskies lost a pair of games at Minnesota State, Mankato by scores of 4-1 and 6-4 on Oct. 14-15, 2016...At the DI level, SCSU owns a 30-17-7 record against the Mavericks. SCSU is 8-2-0 in the last 10 outings against MSU, Mankato. The all-time series started back in 1969-70, with the Mavericks owning a 45-29-6 series lead prior to the dawn of the Division I era at SCSU in 1987-88.
