#3/5 St. Cloud State men's hockey opens season with 3-2 win at UAF

The #3/5 St. Cloud State University men's hockey team (1-0-0, 0-0-0 NCHC) scored a 3-2 victory at the University of Alaska (0-3-0, 0-0-0 WCHA) in Fairbanks, Alaska on Friday, Oct. 12.  The victory marked the opening of the 2018-19 regular season for the Huskies.
UAF opened the game's scoring at 3:28 of the first period with a goal by Kyle Marino, which was assisted by Chris Jandric and Colin Doyle. The Huskies then replied with three unanswered goals to earn the victory up north.
SCSU opened their offense with a goal by Blake Lizotte at 11:03 of the first period, which tied the game at 1-1. Patrick Newell and Sam Hentges each had assists on the play for SCSU.
Newell returned to the score sheet for SCSU's next goal at 1:14 of the second period. Hentges and Ryan Poehling were credited with assists on the goal, which made the score 2-1 in favor of SCSU. Newell completed the Huskies' offensive output on the evening with his second goal of the evening on the power play at 13:18 of the second period. Jack Ahcan and Nolan Walker each had assists on the game by Newell.
UAF ended the game's scoring at 2:59 of the third period with a makrer by James LaDouce. Tyler Cline and Max Newton provided assists on the goal for UAF.
In the game, SCSU outshot the Nanooks 29-18 as David Hrenak was the goalie of record for the Huskies with 16 saves to this credit.
St. Cloud State will continue its weekend up north with game two of its series against Alaska on Saturday, Oct. 13. The game will begin at 10:07 p.m. CT and fans can follow the action with announcer Jim Erickson on The River 96.7 FM. Fans can also listen to the game on the internet at Tune-In Radio.
