SCSU Swimming and Diving teams collect first place finishes at UST Invite

The St. Cloud State University men's and women's swimming and diving teams brought home a pair of first place finishes in the team standings at the 2018 JoAnn Andregg Invitational, which was hosted by the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minn. on Nov. 9-10.
In an early season meeting between two of the NSIC's top programs, SCSU edged Minnesota State, Mankato in the women's team standings. SCSU charted 1,007 points, while MSU was second with 963 points. St. Thomas was third at 622, followed by St. Catherine's (425), Minnesota State Moorhead (362) and Wisconsin-Eau Claire (184).
In the men's standings, SCSU placed first with 1262.67 points, while St. Thomas was second at 1056.83 and UW-Eau Claire was third at 868.50.
On Friday, SCSU placed first in the women's 200 free relay event with a time of 1:37.64. Jessica Kramer also earned a first place finish for the SCSU women in the 100 backstroke at 59.90 and Marena Kouba was second in the same event at 1:00.40.
In the men's competition, Kyle Weis placed first in the 100 fly with a time of 52.18 and Anthony Schwartz was first in the 100 backstroke at 51.54. The Huskies' 800 free relay team of Joel Huth, David Clossey, William Nguyen and Jose Alamo placed first at 7:08.33.
On Saturday, SCSU's 400 medley relay squad of Schwartz, Connor Deitrich, Weis and Brady Wolkow won the men's 400 medley relay at 3:30.52 and the 400 free relay of Huth, Schwartz, Wolkow and Alamo placed first at 3:12.80.
In the 200 fly, Robert Leigh placed first at 1:59.25 followed by teammates Garrett Alleven in second (2:00.43) and Sam Artz in third (2:01.42). Huth also won the 200 free at 1:44.64 and Schwartz scored another first in the 200 back at 1:55.26.
In the women's competition, Jennifer Thompson placed first in the 100 free at 52.82 and Kramer added a first place finish in the 200 backstroke at 2:08.73. The foursome of Thompson, Chelsea Gehrke, Sarah Moden and Alexis Burroughs added a first place finish in the 400 free relay at 3:35.73.
SCSU dominated the diving competition at the meet as the women's team captured the top five spots in both the 1M and 3M events. Britin Thomsen won the 1M at 427.95, followed by teammates Mady Brinkman (392.00), Alyssa Doherty (387.10), Rebekah Stone (384.30) and Annaliesa Anderson (359.40). Thomsen also won the 3M event with a score of 264.50. Doherty placed second at 244.60 and Brinkman placed third at 229.90. Stone placed fourth at 229.55 and Anderson was fifth at 221.70.
In the men's diving events, Scott Stellick placed first in the 3M competition with a score of 285.05 and Hanos Mahari was third at 230.78. In the men's 1M diving competition, Stellick placed second at 409.25.
SCSU will return to action on Saturday, Nov. 17 with a 2 p.m. dual meet against UW-Eau Claire at the Halenbeck Hall Aquatic Complex in St. Cloud, Minn. The meet has been desigated as Senior and Parent Night for the Huskies. Tickets for this meet will be available at the gate on the day of the meet.
