#1 Huskies return to the ice with road games at Miami

The #1 St. Cloud State University men's hockey team (11-1-0, 4-0-0 NCHC) will return to NCHC play on Nov. 30 and Dec. 1 for a pair of games in Oxford, Ohio against Miami University (9-6-1, 3-3-0 NCHC).  Both games wil be played at the Goggins Ice Arena at Miami University.  The game on Nov. 30 will start at 6:35 p.m. (CT) and the game on Dec. 1 will start at 6:06 p.m. (CT).

SCSU HUSKIES HOCKEY HEADLINES:
TEDDY BEAR TOSS: The annual Teddy Bear Toss at SCSU will take place on Saturday, Dec. 8. Fans are encouraged to bring a new or gently used Teddy Bear or plush toy to the game and throw it onto the ice during the intermission during the Teddy Bear Toss. All toys collected will be donated to the St. Cloud Toys for Tots campaign, which provides gifts to the area's needy during the holiday season. SKATE WITH THE HUSKIES: The always popular Skate with the Huskies have been scheduled for after the games on Dec. 8 and Feb. 2 on the main rink of the HBNHC. Fans will have a chance to skate on the Huskies' home ice with players from both the men's and women's hockey teams at SCSU. IN THE POLLS:  The Huskies received a #1 ranking in the USA TODAY/USA Hockey weekly poll.  In the USCHO.com poll this week, the Huskies earned a #1 ranking.  SCSU has received the nation's number one ranking for two consecutive weeks heading into the series at Miami.  SCSU has a current six-game winning streak.
TOP DOGS: The Huskies have been impressive this season and currently rank among the nation's best in several NCAA DI stat categories.  Here is a rundown of where the Huskies sit.

- Jeff Smith leads the nation's DI goalies with a 1.26 GAA this season, while David Hrenak ranks 19th at 2.13 GAA

- David Hrenak leads DI netminders with a 1.000 winning percentage (8-0-0) this season.
- Patrick Newell leads DI players with four game winning goals this season
ANOTHER SWEEP FOR SCSU: Prior to last week's bye weekend, SCSU gained a 2-0 and 7-4 victory over Bemidji State on Nov. 16-17 at the HBNHC. On Nov. 16, Jeff Smith posted a 32 saves shutout to help pace SCSU in the 2-0 victory. Easton Brodzinski netted the game winner at 11:46 of the first, while Kevin Fitzgerald had an ENG at 18:49 of the third. SCSU was limited to a season-low 21 shots in the game...to complete the sweep, SCSU won a 7-4 offensive battle as Kevin Fitzgerald and Jimmy Schuldt both had two goals apiece to pace SCSU. Jon Lizotte scored the GWG at 16:00 of the second period, while other SCSU goals were netted by Patrick Newell and Robby Jackson. SCSU outshot the Beavers 32-24 in the game as David Hrenak was the goalie of record with 20 saves.
 
Senior CLASS Award: Senior defender Jimmy Schuldt has been selected as a candidate for the 2019 Senior CLASS Award. This elite award honors senior student-athlete who have made notable achievements in the areas of excellence, community, classroom, character and competition. FIVE NEEDED: Senior Jimmy Schuldt, a Hobey Baker Award top 10 candidate in 2018, needs just five more points to join SCSU's 100-point club. He would become just the second SCSU defenseman to score 100-or-more career points during his career. The first SCSU blueliner to hit 100 was Kelly Hultgren with 107 from 1991-95. Schuldt is in third place on the Huskies' defenseman scoring list with 95 career points, while Ethan Prow had 99 career points from 2012-16...Robby Jackson is also moving closer to the 100-point mark with 94 career points (36g/58a) as a Husky. Current team scoring leader Patrick Newell, who has 8g/7a this season, is also within range of the 100 point club as he now has charted 88 points (25g/63a) with the Huskies.
A FEW MORE MILESTONES: Easton Brodzinski scored his 20th career goal with the Huskies on Nov. 16 vs. BSU...Jeff Smith posted his second shutout of the season on Nov. 16 vs. BSU and his fourth career shutout. He also had an assist in the game, which marks his second assist of the season.
PACK LEADERS: SCSU is currently led this year by Patrick Newell with eight goals and 15 points. Newell has already hit a career season-high with his eight goals in 2018-19. His career season-high for points is 27 scored in 2017-18...Easton Brodzinski and Kevin Fitzgerald both rank second on the team with six goals apiece...Jack Ahcan (11), Ryan Poehling (10) and Robby Jackson (10) are your SCSU assist leaders so far in 2018-19.
FAST START: At 11-1-0, the Huskies are off to their best start since opening the 2001-02 season with an 11-1-0 start. Last year, SCSU started the season with a 7-0-0 record on the way to the NCHC regular season crown.
CAREER FIRST: Senior defender Jon Lizotte scored the first game winning goal of his career vs. BSU on Nov. 17. In 120 games played during his stellar career, Lizotte has posted 10 goals, 30 assists and 40 points. He currently serves as a alternate captain for the Huskies this season.
ON A ROLL:  Kevin Fitzgerald has a three-game goal scoring streak headed into the Miami series.  Fitzgerald has scored four goals and one assist in his last three games played...Blake Lizotte owns a four-game point streak for the Huskies heading into this weekend.
OPPONENT NOTES: Enrico Blasi is in his 20th year as head coach at MU...this marks the first meeting between SCSU and Miami this season...last year, SCSU posted a 4-0 and 5-2 sweep at Miami and then took the NCHC playoff series in St. Cloud.  SCSU won the first game of the playoff series 5-2. In the second game, SCSU lost 3-2 in OT before earning a bid to the NCHC Frozen Faceoff with a 4-3 OT win...SCSU is 5-8-1 in games played at Miami during the series but the Huskies currently own a 2-game win streak in games played at Miami...last year, David Hreank scored a 4-0 shutout against the RedHawks in Miami...Miami leads the all-time series against the Huskies 17-16-2...Patrick Newell has charted 5g/6a vs. Miami and Robby Jackson has 3g/7a vs. the RedHawks during their careers...last weekend, Miami tied New Hampshire 3-3 on Nov. 23 and lost to UNH 4-1 in Durham, NH...Josh Meinick leads MU with 15  points (6g/9a) followed by Gordie Green with 13 points (6g/7a).  Ryan Larkin is MU's top goalie with a 1.76 GAA and a .939 save rate...Minnesota residents on the MU roster this year include Christian Mohs (Andover) and Zach LaValle (Oakdale).
