
St. Cloud State baseball gains victories over Bemidji State on April 29

The victories improve SCSU's season record to 28-13 and 21-8 in the always rugged NSIC. Â The Huskies will enjoy a bye week from NSICÂ action before playing in the NSICÂ tournament on May 9-12 in Sioux Falls, S.D.
In game one, the Huskies relied upon another stellar pitching effort from junior starter Dominic Austing to gain the shutout win.  Austing went the distance with just three hits allowed and eight strikeouts to improve to 5-1 on the season.  Of note, Austing owns a 3-0 record in his last three starts with only one run allowed during that three-game stretch.
On a windy day at Joe Faber Field, SCSU relied on a high-powered offense to gain the win in game one.  Aaron Hammann opened the attack with a two run homer in the third inning, followed by solo homer in the fourth inning by Mat Meyer.  In the fifth inning, SCSU stretch its lead to 4-0 with a double by Bo Schmitz that scored Hammann.  In the fifth inning, Mitch Mallek capped the attack with two-run home run that scored Schmitz to make it 6-0.
In the game, SCSU outhit the Beavers 8-3.
To complete the sweep in SCSU's final regular season home game, SCSUÂ relied on another offensive showcase to gain the 15-4 win in seven inning due to the 10-run rule.
After falling behind 1-0 in the first inning, SCSUÂ charged back with two runs in the bottom of the first to make it 2-1. Â In the second inning, Jordan Joseph collected an RBI single to score Caeden Harris as SCSU pushed its lead to 3-1.
In the third inning, SCSU extended its lead to 7-1 with RBI hits by Hammann and Ethan Ibara.  BSU narrowed the gap to 7-4 in the top of the fourth inning before Issac Matchinsky singled in Mitch Mallek to start another SCSU rally.  Hammann then pushed the lead to 11-4 with a three-run homer in the fourth.  SCSU iced the game in the sixth inning with a grand slam by Schmitz that gave the Huskies a 15-4 lead and the 10-run pad it needed for the early win.
In the game, SCSUÂ outhit the Beavers 18-7. Mitch Mallek had four hits in the game to lead SCSU, while Hammann and Jordan Joseph each had three hits. Â On the mound, Shannon Ahern gained the win in relief with 2.0 innings pitched. Â Trevor Koenig started the game for SCSUÂ with 4.0 innings pitched and two strikeouts. Â Matt Butler completed the game with 1.0 innings pitched and two strikeouts. Â Of note, Ahern is now 7-0 on the season for the Huskies.
