Huskies Fall to MSU-Moorhead in Saturday Showdown

Four different Huskies tallied 13 or more points on Saturday.
ST. CLOUD, Minn. - In an exhilarating contest in the always rugged NSIC, the St. Cloud State women's basketball team fell 75-82 to the MSU-Moorhead Dragons at Halenbeck Hall. The Huskies fall to 11-7 and 8-6 in the NSIC while MSUM improves to 17-3 and 8-6 in conference play.
For the second night in a row, the Huskies were able to post at least 75 points. Leading the shootout against the NSIC's top ranked Dragons was Nikki Kilboten, Katrina Theis, Mallie Doucette and Tori Wortz. Kilboten recorded a team-high of 16 points while also reeling in five rebounds. Theis finished with 15 points and nine rebounds, one rebound shy of obtaining her third double-double of the season. Wortz and Doucette each totaled 13 points and combined for seven assists.
MSU-Moorhead's offensive efforts were paced by Jacky Volkert and Kiley Borowicz. Volkert had a game-high of 27 points while Borowicz charted 24 and seven rebounds.
As a team, SCSU shot 51.7 percent (31-60) from the field, 42.9 percent (6-14) from three-point land and 53.8 percent (7-13) from the free throw line. The Dragons were 49.2 percent (31-63) from the field, 42.3 percent (11-26) from three and 75 percent (9-12) at the line.
St. Cloud State led the top-ranked Dragons through the first half, and at one point led by 12 with under three minutes to play in the second quarter. SCSU was out-scored 28-17 in the third quarter which forced the Huskies to try and work out of a deficit for the duration of the fourth quarter. Of note, SCSU out-scored MSUM in each of the quarters except for the third.
The Huskies return to Halenbeck Hall to continue their homestand against Upper Iowa on Friday, Feb. 1 at 5:30 and the Winona State Warriors on Saturday, Feb. 2 at 3:30 PM.
