Youth Night scheduled for Feb. 2
The #1 St. Cloud State University men's hockey team (18-4-2, 10-2-2 NCHC) will be back home on Feb. 1-2 for a pair of games at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center against Miami University (9-13-4, 3-9-2 NCHC). The game on Feb. 1 will begin at 7:07 p.m. and the game on Feb. 2 will start at 6:07 p.m. Great tickets are available for both of these games at scsutickets.comÂ

SKATE WITH THE HUSKIES PART II: The second always popular Skate with the Huskies has been scheduled for after the game on Feb. 2 on the main rink of the HBNHC. Fans will have a chance to skate on the Huskies' home ice with players from both the men's and women's hockey teams at SCSU. This is a great chance to get autographs and photos with your favorite players from both teams. Call 1-877-SCSUTIX for more details.
YOUTH NIGHT: The SCSU vs. Miami game on Feb. 2 has been designated as Youth Night. All youth (up to senior in high school) will be admitted free with a paid adult. Youth tickets are only available as walk-up only. The game will also feature $1 hot dogs at the HBNHC concession stands on Feb. 2.

IN THE POLLS: The Huskies received a #1 ranking in the USA TODAY/USA Hockey weekly poll. In the USCHO.com poll this week, the Huskies earned a #1 ranking. Â
LAST TIME OUT: The Huskies split a weekend series at North Dakota on Jan. 25 (W, 3-1) and Jan. 26 (L, 5-1). After trailing 1-0 in the first period, SCSU rolled with a goal in the second period by Micah Miller. Patrick Newell etched the game winner at 13:33 of the third period before Blake Lizotte capped the night with an ENG in the closing minutes of play. In the game, David Hrenak made 14 saves to gain the win. SCSU outshot the Hawks 36-15...on Jan. 26, UND jumped to a 3-0 lead by the second period before a SHG by Jimmy Schuldt at 17:25 of the second broke the shutout. Patrick Newell and Jon Lizotte had assists on the play. UND added two more goals in the third period to earn the victory. UND outshot the Huskies 29-23. This marked just the fifth time this season that SCSU has been outshot in a game.

HOT HAND: SCSU freshman Micah Miller has scored three goals in his last four games played. He added his third marker of the season at UND on Jan. 25. On the season, Miller has 3g/2a.
NEXT MILESTONE: Senior defender and post-season honors candidate Jimmy Schuldt is moving closer to the team's record for most career points scored by a defenseman. Schuldt currently has 103 career points (35g/68a). The team's record is currently owned by Kelly Hultgren, who had 107 career points (28g/79a). Schuldt already owns the team record for most career goals by a defenseman with 35. He is also tied for the team record by a defenseman with 18 power play goals along with Justin Fletcher (2003-07). Schuldt also has two career SHGs.
PENALTY NOTE: Patrick Newell streak of 78 games played without a penalty was halted on Jan. 25, when he was called for a roughing penalty at 19:44 of the 3rd. He also had a penalty on Jan. 26. He was not called for a penalty during the entire 2017-18 season and only has been whistled for 6 penalites (12 minutes) during his career at SCSU. His last penalty received was Dec. 2, 2016 at WMU before Jan. 25.
MORE ON NEWELL: Patrick Newell leads the nation with five game winning goals this season. He added his fifth GWG on Jan. 25 in the win at UND. The currently SCSU record of seven GWGs was set by Joey Benik in 2015-16. Newell has eight career game winners, while teammate Easton Brodzinski has nine game winners in his career. The current record for career GWGs was set by Ryan Lasch, Joe Jensen and David Morley with 13 apiece.
KILLNG TIME: SCSU has been perfect on the penalty kill in 15 games this season, including the last four consecutive games. The last time SCSU allowed a power play goal was on Jan. 12 at UMD. SCSU owns a penalty kill rate of 89.6%, which ranks second in the nation behind UMD (91.2%). SCSU is 69-of-77 on the penalty kill this season. SCSU is 11-3-1 when its opponent does not score on the power play this season.
NATIONAL LEADERS: The following is a rundown of where the Huskies rank in the current NCAA stat categories:Â Power Play - 9th (23.7%), Offense - 3rd (3.75 gpg), Defense - 8th (2.17 gapg), Scoring Margin - 4th (1.58 margin), Winning Percentage - 1st (.792). Â
DEFENSIVE LEADERS: Jimmy Schuldt and Jack Ahcan both rank 20th in the nation for scoring by a defenseman at 0.83 ppg...on the topic of national leaders, Nolan Walker ranks 8th in the nation for scoring by a rookie with 0.88 ppg in 2018-19.
FYI: Jimmy Schuldt has played in 141 consecutive games at SCSU. He will be playing in his 142nd career game at SCSU on Friday.

COMPARING NOTES: After 24 games, SCSU is 18-4-2. In comparison, SCSU was 19-4-1 after 24 games in 2000-01 and 2001-02 and 18--5-1 in 2015-16. Last year, SCSU was 15-6-3 after 24 games played.
OPPONENT NOTES: Blasi is in his 20th year as head coach at MU...this marks the second meeting between SCSU and Miami this season...earlier this year, SCSU and Miami skated to a 4-4, 2-2 tie weekend on Nov. 30 and Dec. 1 in Oxford...last year, SCSU posted a 4-0 and 5-2 sweep at Miami and then took the NCHC playoff series in St. Cloud. SCSU won the first game of the playoff series 5-2. In the second game, SCSU lost 3-2 in OT before earning a bid to the NCHC Frozen Faceoff with a 4-3 OT win...SCSU is 9-7-1 in games played at home against Miami in the series..last year, David Hreank scored a 4-0 shutout against the RedHawks in Miami...Miami leads the all-time series against the Huskies 17-16-2...Patrick Newell has charted 6g/8a vs. Miami and Robby Jackson has 5g/7a vs. the RedHawks during their careers...last week, Miami was swept at home by CC 6-1 and 3-2...Miami has not won a game since defeating CC on Nov. 17 by a 3-2 tally in OT. Miami will bring a 6-game losing streak into the series at SCSU...Josh Meinick leads MU with 19 points (7g/12a) followed by Gordie Green with 18 points (9g/9a). Ryan Larkin is MU's top goalie with a 2.59 GAA and a .917 save rate...Minnesota residents on the MU roster this year include Christian Mohs (Andover) and Zach LaValle (Oakdale).
