#14 St. Cloud State falls to #11 Northeastern, 4-1

The #14 St. Cloud State University men's hockey team (0-1-2, 0-0-0 NCHC) lost a 4-1 decision against #11 Northeastern University (4-0-1, 1-0-0 HE) on Friday, Oct. 25 at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St. Cloud, Minn.
The loss marked the Huskies first loss at home since a 3-2 OT defeat against Miami in the NCHC playoffs on March 10, 2018. Last year, the Huskies posted a 17-0-1 record at home on the way to a first place finish in the 2018-19 NCHC regular season standings.
St. Cloud State and Northeastern will finish their weekend series at the HBNHC with a 6:07 p.m. game on Saturday, Oct. 26. Prior to the start of the game, SCSU will unveil a statue in honor of former Huskies' coach Herb Brooks, who led the team during the 1986-87 season and played a key role in helping SCSU make the move to the NCAA DI level and the original construction of the Huskies' home rink.
A special unveiling ceremony is scheduled to take place outside of the main entrance to the HBNHC at 4:30 p.m. on Oct. 26 and the public is invited to attend this event.
In the game on Oct. 25, Northeastern took an early lead with a goal by John Picking at 8:32 of the first period. In the second period, SCSU knotted the score at 1-1 with a power play marker by Sam Hentges at 4:30. He was assisted on the play by Jami Krannila and Clark Kuster. This was Hentges' second goal of the season and it was his 12th career marker at SCSU.
The assist was the first career point for Krannila, who played junior hockey in the USHL at Sioux Falls and is a resident of Nokia, Finland. This was Kuster's first assist of 2019-20 and it marked the second consecutive weekend that the senior defender from St. Louis has scored a point.
At 9:37 of the second period, NE netted the game winner with a goal by Tyler Madden. He then extended his Huskies' lead to 3-1 with his second goal of the evening at 19:24 of the second. In the closing minutes of play, Northeastern iced the contest with an empty net goal by Biagio Lerario at 18:35.
On the evening, Northeastern controlled the stat sheet as it outshot SCSU 34-20. David Hrenak was the goalie of record for SCSU with 20 saves in the game and Craig Pantano had 19 saves for NE.
