Men's basketball hosts Duluth in final game of 2019

ST. CLOUD, MINN. – The first semester is finally coming to an end at St. Cloud State University. Finals are wrapping up and Christmas-slash-holiday presents are being wrapped as students, faculty and staff alike prepare for break. There will still be a few student-athletes in action this weekend, though, as the St. Cloud State men's basketball team is set to host the University of Minnesota-Duluth at 4 p.m. on Saturday, December 21.
This is the second time the Huskies and Bulldogs will square off in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) action after their meeting in Duluth, Minnesota earlier this season. Of course, St. Cloud State fans are hoping this meeting goes a bit better, as Minnesota-Duluth won the first game quite handily, taking down the Huskies by a final score of 95-74.
Live stats, video and a live radio broadcast will be available for fans who cannot make the trek to Halenbeck Hall, and score updates will be made on the team's official Twitter page (@SCSUmensbball) throughout the game.
Here are the five things to know before the Huskies last game of 2019:
20 – St. Cloud State has won 20 basketball games during the 2019 calendar year. In fact, the Huskies have compiled a 20-10 record dating back to last season, including their six wins to open this season. Since January 1, 2019, not a single team has defeated St. Cloud State twice in the calendar year. The only team that could do it? Minnesota-Duluth.
15.3 – The Bulldogs are currently riding a three-game win-streak against the Huskies, as they've won the last three meetings by a margin of 15.3 points. Minnesota-Duluth won both meetings in 2018-19, beating St. Cloud State 91-81 in Halenbeck Hall on December 1 before taking the second game in Duluth 75-60 on December 30. This year, the Bulldogs opened NSIC play with a 95-74 win over the Huskies and currently boast the best record in the conference at 4-1.
2 – St. Cloud State and Minnesota-Duluth fans can hope for slightly better weather for this go-round between the two teams. Back in November, the city of Duluth received an early Christmas present, as Mother Nature dumped 30+ inches of snow on the city in two days, forcing the Huskies and Bulldogs to reschedule their NSIC opener not once but twice in a 48 hour time span.
21.6 – St. Cloud State senior guard Trevon Marshall (Evanston, Ill. / Evanston) has been on a tear during the month of December. In five games, the senior has averaged an impressive 21.6 points per game, all against NSIC opponents, thanks to a .521 shooting percentage from the floor. Thanks to his impressive month, Marshall currently ranks third in the conference in points per game and ranks tenth in field goal percentage.
25.8/10.4 – Of course, the Huskies will have to find a way to stop Bulldog senior forward Brandon Myer who is still a force to be reckoned with. Through five conference games, Myer is averaging an impressive 25.8 points and 10.4 rebounds per game, both of which rank second in the NSIC. In fact, Myer is one of just two student-athletes in the conference averaging a double-double this season and the only one averaging 20+ points a game against NSIC opponents. St. Cloud State was able to hold him under his rebound averaging in its first meeting with Minnesota-Duluth, as Myer only managed to score 25 points and tally nine rebounds against the Huskies earlier this month.
