ST. CLOUD, MINN. – It's been quite the week for the St. Cloud State University men's basketball team. In a span of 48 hours, the Huskies Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) opener at Minnesota-Duluth was cancelled twice before they finally managed to play the Bulldogs on Monday. This weekend, St. Cloud State looks to grind out two more conference games, as the team hosts the University of Mary and Minot State University in NSIC play this upcoming weekend.
The Huskies are looking for their first NSIC win of the season this weekend as they host the Marauders on Friday, December 6 and the Beavers on Saturday, December 7. Tip off Friday is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in Halenbeck Hall, while Saturday's game is set to begin at 5:30 p.m.
Fans who cannot make the trek to St. Cloud State can follow the team in a multitude of ways. As always, live stats and video will be available as will a live radio broadcast of both games. Additionally, score updates will be made when available on the team's official Twitter page (@SCSUmensbball).
Here are the five things to know before this weekend's NSIC contests:
100 – Sixth year head coach Matt Reimer is still chasing the 100 wins club, as he sits at 99 in his career thanks to victories over Oak Hills Christian College, Waldorf and Dakota Wesleyan this season. Should he beat Mary on Friday, he will become just the sixth coach in program history to achieve the feat, joining Warren Kasch (119), Red Severson (209), Noel Olson (155), Butch Raymond (231) and Reimer's predecessor Kevin Schlagel (341) as the only coaches to do so. Amongst those coaches, Reimer would rank sixth all-time in career wins and could surpass Kasch by the end of the 2019-20 season.
74 – Scoring was not really an issue in theHUskies NSC opener against Minnesota-Duluth on Monday. In fact, St. Cloud State scored 74 points against the Bulldogs and saw three student-athletes score in double digits. Seniors Trevon Marshall (Evanston, Ill. / Evanston Township) and Diamond Onwuka (Barcelona, Spain / Canarias Basketball Academy) both put up huge numbers in their final NSIC opener while first year Anthony Roberts (Chicago, Ill. / Oak Park) impressed in his conference debut, scoring 12 points with a team-leading six rebounds on 5-11 shooting.
23 – Marshall didn't just impress against Minnesota-Duluth. Rather, the Bulldogs were just another victim of his latest scoring barrage. The senior has scored a career-high 23 points in back-to-back games, including the Huskies thrilling 75-71 win over Dakota Wesleyan two weekends ago. In fact, in the last two games, Marshall has shot .531 from the floor (17-32), including an impressive .714 clip from three-point range (5-7).
1 – Both Mary and Minot State enter the weekend with winning records, as both the Marauders and Beavers have suffered one loss this season. Thanks to its win over Minot State last weekend, Mary currently standings in second place in the conference with an overall record of 5-1 and a 1-0 mark in NSIC play. The Beavers, on the other hand, are 6-1 with their lone loss coming at the hands of the Marauders.
14.7/11.8 – Minot State and Mary have no issues outscoring opponents this season. Through seven games, the Beavers are outscoring their foes by a 14.8 margin, which ranks second overall in the NSIC. The Marauders are also putting plenty of points on the board, as they've won their games by a margin of 11.8 points.
