Mark Allister, the author of Women's College Softball on the Rise: A Season Inside the Game, will appear at St. Cloud State University's Miller Center Auditorium at 7 p.m. on Sept. 4.Â
His presentation "Female Athletes Performing Gender: An Aspirational Model for Sports and Life," is open to the public and admission is free.
Allister has taught English at St. Olaf College for thirty-two years, making him a Midwesterner of sorts, though he grew up in Southern California trying to be a beach bum. After two academic books (Refiguring the Map of Sorrow: Nature Writing and Autobiography and Eco-Man: New Perspectives on Masculinity and Nature), Allister turned to writing narrative for a general audience.
His book on the beloved Minnesota indie rock band, Cloud Cult (Chasing the Light: The Cloud Cult Story), appeared in 2014. He has written on women's softball for FastPitch News and FastPitch Delivery and will be covering the 2020 DIII season for FloSoftball.
His book Women's College Softball on the Rise: A Season Inside the Game was published in 2019 and it focuses on the 2018 season of college softball.
