St. Cloud State Softball Earns Second Straight NSIC Sweep, Outscores Jimmies 11-2

Huskies defeat UJ 3-1 and 8-1, only allow three hits in the doubleheader
JAMESTOWN, N.D. – St. Cloud State Softball (23-9, 5-1 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) earned its second consecutive conference doubleheader sweep on Saturday against Jamestown (19-10, 0-6 NSIC) at the Nelson Family Bubble in Jamestown, North Dakota. The Huskies won game one 3-1, before taking game two 8-1.
GAME ONE: ST. CLOUD STATE 3, JAMESTOWN 1
St. Cloud State jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the second after redshirt freshman infielder Hannah Weckman (Lakeville, Minn.) and junior infielder Brooke Holmes (Savage, Minn.) drove in runs on back-to-back at-bats. The Jimmies scored their lone run on their lone hit, a leadoff solo home run in the next half inning to cut their deficit to one. Holmes added an insurance run for the Huskies in the top of the sixth with another RBI-single.
Senior pitcher Macey Clark (Winneconne, Wis.) was excellent, striking out 12 while allowing just one run on one hit and two walks over a complete 7.0 innings.
TOP HUSKIES
The Huskies did all their damage in the first half inning, pouring in eight runs on five hits. After three straight walks to start the inning, Honeycutt drove in the first SCSU runs with a two-RBI single to right field. Two batters later, Frechette doubled the Huskies lead with a two-RBI single to center field. Later in the inning, Holmes cleared the loaded bases with a triple to right field and the next at-bat, Weiss pushed the SCSU lead to eight with an RBI-single to left field. The Jimmies scored their lone run with a solo home run in the home half of the fifth inning to extend the game and avoid a run-rule defeat. Neither team added more runs and the game finished 8-1.

- SCSU improved to 7-5 all-time against Jamestown, snapping a three-game losing streak against the Jimmies. The Huskies also improved to 1-0 against UJ in NSIC play.

- Clark recorded her team leading 10th win and ninth complete game. She lowered her season ERA to 1.62 and WHIP to 0.99. Her 12 strikeouts are her new SCSU single game best.
- Holmes recorded her ninth multi-hit game of the season and third multi-RBI game which ranks second and tied for third on the team respectively.
- Harms hit her first double of the season.
- Weiss hit her team-leading 10th double of the season. She extended her hitting streak to seven games and her on-base streak to a season-best 11 games.
- Honeycutt hit her ninth double of the season which ranks No. 2 on the team this season.
- Sophomore infielder Grace Dahmen (Jordan, Minn.) drew a walk to extend her on-base streak to a season-best five games.
