Game Notes
St. Cloud State Women's Hockey (3-7-1, 3-7-1 WCHA) closes their five-game homestand with a two-game series against No. 1 Wisconsin (6-2-0, 6-2-0 WCHA) this weekend at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center. Friday's puck drop is scheduled for 3:07 p.m. CST while Saturday's tilt will begin at 2:07 p.m. CST.
Wisconsin leads the all-time series at 84-8-2. SCSU went 0-4 against the Badgers in 2019-20, swept both at the HBNHC and on the road. The Huskies' last win against Wisconsin came on the road on February 20, 2015 by a 2-1 final while the last Huskies' home win was a 4-2 victory on November 21, 2009.
Scouting the Huskies
St. Cloud State currently stands at 3-7-1 on the season, good for sixth in the WCHA standings, having already surpassed their WCHA win total from a year ago. The Huskies went undefeated against Bemidji State last weekend, winning Friday's contest 3-1 and tying Saturday's affair 2-2. SCSU earned four points in the standings as BSU earned the extra Saturday tally in a shootout win. Emma Gentry and Taylor Lind each scored a goal in both games and Lind finished with a team-high three points, adding an assist Friday. Emma Polusny earned the win Friday with a 33-save performance, while Nicole Ness scored her first collegiate goal in Friday's game. St. Cloud State's penalty kill shut out Bemidji State's three chances over the weekend and has killed an impressive 29-of-30 power plays (96.7%) through the season's first eleven games. The Huskies' PK ranks second in the country in success rate.
Freshman Emma Gentry scored two goals with one game-winner and earned her second WCHA Rookie of the Week nod of the season on January 19 for her performance in the Huskies' series against BSU. Playing as a wing on the Huskies' second line against Bemidji State, Gentry was a plus-two and has now scored one goal in each of the four games she has played against the Beavers.
Both Emma Polsuny and Sanni Ahola rank in the top-20 in the NCAA save percentage leaders. Ahola is 18th with a .928 mark while Polusny stands 20th at .924.
Scouting the Badgers
No. 1 Wisconsin is coming off a home sweep of then-No. 1 Minnesota where they outscored the Gophers 11-3. The Badgers have yet to lose a series in 2020-21, both their losses are at the hands of No. 3 Ohio State in separate series. Senior forward Daryl Watts leads the team with 13 points on a Badger-best 7 goals, while goaltender Kennedy Blair ranks 8th in the nation in save percentage at .952.
