St. Cloud State Women's Hockey (2-4-0, 2-4-0 WCHA) will begin second half play this week with three tilts against No. 2 Minnesota (5-1-0, 5-1-0 WCHA). The Huskies and Gophers play at Ridder Arena on Thursday and Saturday, January 7 and 9, at 3:07 and 4:07 p.m. CST respectively. SCSU will play host to the series finale at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center on Sunday, January 10 at 3:07 p.m. CST. Minnesota presently holds the leading position in the WCHA standings with 15 points, while the Huskies are in sixth with six.
Minnesota leads the all-time series at 92-3-3. Last season the Huskies were winless in six tries against the Gophers, including a two-game postseason sweep in the WCHA First Round.
Scouting the Huskies
SCSU split their first half finale road series at Bemidji State on December 10-11. The Huskies won 3-2 in overtime on Thursday, then fell by the same score in OT Friday. Freshman Emma Gentry and junior Jenniina Nylund each posted a three-point series with two goals and an assist while Gentry scored the game-winner on Thursday. St. Cloud State's penalty kill shut out BSU over the weekend and has killed an impressive 18-of-19 power plays (94.7%) through the season's first six games. The Huskies' PK ranks 8th in the country in success rate. Gentry scored her first collegiate goal with Thursday's overtime winner and earned WCHA Rookie of the Week honors on December 15 for her performance in the series. Playing as a wing on the Huskies' second line against Bemidji State, Gentry was a plus-four with two goals and an assist. Nylund has scored a goal in three straight games headed into the second half and leads SCSU with five points on the year. She is the lone Huskies player with a positive plus-minus, maintaining a plus-one.

Minnesota carries the longest-active NCAA winning streak at four into this week's three-game series, sweeping UMD and Minnesota State to close the second half. The Gophers' second half-opening series against UMD was postponed this week. Minnesota is tied for first in the country with a 100% success rate on the PK, eliminating 16-of-16 opponent chances.Grace Zumwinkle leads the Gophers with five goals and six points, while Lauren Bench has gone 4-1 with a 1.21 GAA and a .965 save percentage, both marks ranking top-five in the country.
