Resilient Huskies fall 5-2 to No. 2 Ohio State
10/29/2021 7:30:00 PM | Women's Hockey
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – St. Cloud State Women's Hockey responded with aplomb following a difficult opening period in their Friday series opener at No. 2 Ohio State but couldn't recover from the 3-0 deficit, falling 5-2 to the WCHA leader. Outshot 19-0 in the first, SCSU responded with two goals in the second period. Mackenzie Bourgerie held the zone on a tieup near the blue line three minutes into the second, tossing the puck ahead to Taylor Lind. The latter threaded a pass from the left dot to just right of the slot, finding a crashing Emma Gentry for a one-timer to cut the deficit to two. Just over a minute later, Klara Hymlarova dove to the left of the crease and took a wild swing at the puck, deflecting it off the tender's right shoulder for her second goal of the season. Emma Polusny stopped 35 shots in goal for the Huskies, while Taytum Geier led with three blocks.

Following the Huskies' two goals, OSU's Paetyn Levis scored three minutes later to regain a two-goal lead. The Buckeyes would add a power play goal from Sophie Jaques early in the third to seal the win.

"Hockey is a 60 minute game and today we just weren't able to recover from a slow start. OSU plays a strong physical game and forechecks well. For tomorrow our breakouts need to be better and be ready at the drop of the puck."
UP NEXT
The Huskies and Buckeyes wrap up their series on Saturday afternoon with a 1:00 p.m. CST puck drop. The finale will be broadcast on the KVSC Sports Stream and B1G+, available on the SCSU Women's Hockey schedule page.
