
Volleyball ranked sixth in first Regional Poll

INDIANAPOLIS, IND. - The St. Cloud State University volleyball team has become a mainstay in the AVCA Top-25 and Central Region rankings in the past two seasons. On Wednesday, the Huskies once again found themselves amongst the top-10 teams in the Central Region, as they were ranked sixth in the initial Regional Rankings released Wednesday afternoon.
St. Cloud State was one of five teams from the NSIC ranked in the Region Rankings, joining Winona State (No. 2), Concordia-St. Paul (No. 5), Wayne State (No. 8) and Southwest Minnesota State (No. 10). All four teams were ranked in the AVCA Top-25 poll this week as well, which the Huskies moving up to #12 after their wins over Minnesota-Duluth and Minnesota-Crookston.
The NSIC, Great American Conference (GAC) and Mid-America Athletics Association (MIAA) make up the NCAA Central Region, consistently considered one of the toughest regions in the sport of college volleyball. The top eight teams in the region will advance to the Regional Round of the NCAA Tournament, which will take place December 2-4 at yet to be determined sites. The conference tournament winners will receive an automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament and the other five spots will be rewarded on an at-large basis.
This is the first of three NCAA Regional Rankings that will be released throughout the remaining weeks of the regular and postseason. St. Cloud State will look to solidify its place amongst the top-8 this weekend when it hosts Sioux Falls and #14 SMSU in the final two home matches of the regular season.
