
Torve garners CoSIDA First Team Academic All-America honors

First Husky to earn the award since 1995
AUSTIN, Texas - St. Cloud State University volleyball's Maddy Torve (Loretto, Minn. / Heritage Christian Academy) is no stranger to making headlines during her five years with the Huskies. With graduation on the horizon, Torve made one final headline, as she was voted First Team Academic All-America by the members of the College of Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Torve is the first St. Cloud State student-athlete to earn CoSIDA Division II First Team Academic All-America honors since 1995 and adds it to a long list of impressive accomplishments. Torve has taken home several major honors during award season, as she was named First Team All-Conference, All-Region and All-America, and was voted the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Outstanding Senior of the Year by the conference coaches. She was certainly worthy of every honor. The setter tallied 1386 assists in her final season with St. Cloud State, moving to third all-time with 4242 career assists. She additionally led the NSIC in both total assists and assists per set throughout 2021 and became the first Husky in 20+ years to record multiple 60+ assist performances in a single season. Torve did all this while maintaining a 3.94 grade point average (GPA) as a marketing major.
Historically, Torve ranks amongst the best setters in program history, as she cemented her place in the St. Cloud State record books for years to come. In addition to ranking third all-time in career assists (4242), Torve ranks second all-time in career sets played (432), third (1386) and fifth (1375) all-time in single-season assists, sixth all-time in single-match assists (68) and tenth in career matches played (119). She additionally piloted the Huskies to their best winning percentage (.844) and fewest losses (5) in program history.
The CoSIDA Academic All-America teams are selected by the sports information directors and athletic communication representatives across the nation at the Division I, II and III level. Honorees must have been selected as a First Team Academic All-District recipient by their institution's sports information director.
