Huskies alumni David Kroger named head coach of St. Cloud Technical & Community College

Former St. Cloud State righthander David Kroger has been named the new head coach for St. Cloud Technical & Community College baseball following an extremely successful two-year stint as the program's pitching coach. Kroger spent two seasons pitching for the Huskies in 2016-17, leading SCSU to two NCAA Central Region Tournament berths and one NSIC Tournament Championship.
"Being able to take on the Head Coach position in the city I was born in is a great honor," Kroger said, "This position will be a challenge but ultimately will help me grow as a coach and person."
Kroger made 36 appearances with one start over his two-year Huskies career, earning three wins and one save. The righthanded pitcher worked 49.0 innings in an SCSU uniform, striking out 55 batters. He operated as the team's top setup man both seasons, posting his best campaign in 2016 with a 4.29 ERA over 18 appearances and 21.0 innings of work, hitters to a .247 average and a .693 OPS while striking out batters at a 27.8% clip.
"I'm very happy for David and look forward to continuing a great relationship with the Tech college," commented Huskies head coach Pat Dolan, "David has always had that outgoing personality and combined with his knowledge and passion he's really developing into a great young coach."
Following his Huskies career, Kroger has served as the pitching coordinator for the Minnesota MASH Baseball Club before joining the Cyclones as an assistant coach in 2020. Kroger helped coach St. Cloud Technical & Community College to a berth in the 2021 NJCAA DIII College World Series, guiding the Cyclones' pitching staff to a Minnesota College Athletic Conference-leading 3.19 ERA---nearly half a run lower than the next-best team.
"We have a good amount of returners coming back that will help lead this year's team," continued Kroger, "We have one mission and that is to return to the College World Series. This group is hungry and excited to get back at it. I'm extremely blessed and happy to accept this opportunity to lead this group of young men. Go Cyclones!"
