Welcome to the Pack - Grace Wolfe

St. Cloud State Women's Hockey welcomes five newcomers to the program in 2021-22, with one transfer and four true freshmen. Our next edition of "Welcome to the Pack" features defender Grace Wolfe, a freshman from Owatonna, Minnesota.
A member of the Owatonna varsity team since her eighth-grade season, Wolfe wore the "C" each of her last three campaigns. Wolfe earned All-Big Nine Conference recognition four times in hockey and was also an accomplished prep soccer and track participant. On the pitch, Wolfe was a two-time All-Big Nine Conference honoree and was a three-year captain. She earned multiple Equestrian Riding state championships in Western Pleasure, English and Showmanship.
Huskies Athletics: Why did you choose St. Cloud State University?
Grace Wolfe: I choose St. Cloud because it was close to home and the program is very strong on personal development, and of course the great hockey environment!
HA: When did you decide you wanted to play collegiate hockey?
GW: Ever since I was a little girl! It was always in the back of my mind! The idea really set in stone my sophomore year or high school.
HA: You come to SCSU following an incredible high school career at Owatonna High School, earning multiple All-Big Nine Conference honors and capping off your senior year with an All-State nod. What are some of your favorite memories from your time playing in high school?
GW: It is hard to decide on one favorite memory but mine would definitely be the overtime game against Northfield to become Big Nine Conference Champions.
HA: As a multi-year captain at Owatonna, your teammates certainly looked to you in a leadership role during your prep career. What do you feel are some of your strongest leadership qualities?
GW: Some of my best qualities would include leading by example, keeping myself and others accountable, and simply being a well-rounded teammate that cares for the success of others around her.
HA: You enjoyed a long varsity career at Owatonna, playing all the way back as an eighth grader. Skill-wise, what areas of your game do you feel developed the most over your five-year varsity career?
GW: I would say my vision of the ice and my poise. I see plays developing quicker and have a good view of the entirety of plays. For my poise I have got better at making the right play and not forcing plays.
HA: Not only did you star on the ice, pitch and track; you also earned multiple Equestrian State Championships as a prep. How did you get involved in competitive horseback riding, and what are some of your favorite memories from the sport?
GW: My entire family is in the competitive horse industry, so it became a second nature to me while growing up. I have ridden since I was three and my favorite memories would be showing up at the state fair grounds and going to local shows!
HA: Who is an/are some important person/people in your life that has helped you reach the Division I level?
GW: My dad has always been my biggest support and has helped me develop into the player I am today. Another would be Jeremy Gunderson, who has helped me during the summers for training and helped me find St. Cloud as a hockey program.
HA: What career field are you interested in?
GW: As of now I am interested in Forensic Science and Criminology, but that may change to something regarding Pre-Med!
