
No. 6 St. Cloud State Men’s Hockey Drops Series Opener to No. 13 North Dakota

Huskies fall to Fighting Hawks, 7-1
GRAND FORKS, N.D. – No. 6 St. Cloud State Men's Hockey (14-7-0, 6-5-0 NCHC) fell to No. 13 North Dakota (14-10-0, 9-4-0 NCHC), 7-1, to open the series on Friday night at Ralph Engelstad Arena in Grand Forks, N.D. The Fighting Hawks scored three goals in the first period, including one in the first three minutes of the game, to take control of the game early and keep the momentum throughout the entirety of the game.
TURNING POINT
The Fighting Hawks' Connor Ford found the net 2:53 into the first period, scoring on a pass from Matteo Costantini to jump out to a 1-0 lead. The Hawks would tack on another with 4:15 left in the period and a third in the final minute of the period to lead 3-0 at the end of the first period. The onslaught gave North Dakota the momentum, which the Huskies were never able to recapture.

- Junior forward Jami Krannila (Nokia, Finland) scored a second period power play goal, his fifth goal of the season with a man advantage and 10th overall this season.
- Senior defenseman Spencer Meier (Sartell, Minn.) and junior forward Zach Okabe (Okotoks, Alberta) each added an assist on the second period goal, their 10th of the season, each.
NOTES
- The Huskies scored on the power play on the fifth consecutive game and for the 33rd time this season. St. Cloud State is now 38.4 percent (33-of-86) on the power play this season.
- Krannila scored his 10th goal of the season and the 26th of his career. He now has 18 points on the season and 55 in his career.
- Meier's 10th assist on the season gave him 36 for his career and 47 career points overall.
- Okabe's 28th career assist puts him one point away from 50 at 49 career points.
