St. Cloud State shut out 5-0 at the HBNHC
St. Cloud, Minn. – St. Cloud State Women's Hockey was shut out 5-0 by No. 4/5 Wisconsin at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center on Friday evening.
The Huskies were outshot 50-10 on the night as goaltender JoJo Chobak tied her career high with 45 saves. SCSU's penalty kill stood out as they held Wisconsin scoreless on all five chances.
Dayle Ross and Taytum Geier shared the Huskies' lead with three blocks each.
Turning Point
After holding the Badgers scoreless through one, SCSU allowed three goals in a six-minute span midway through the second period. Wisconsin would tack on two more in the third for the 5-0 final as their defense limited St. Cloud State to six total shots on goal in the final two frames.
Quotables – St. Cloud State head coach Brian Idalski
"I felt that we competed and didn't quit, so I'm happy with that. That's a good starting place. Some of the execution – specifically the penalty kill – showed some good improvement, so definitely some positives for us. The outcome isn't what we want, but I see some growth and I'm happy with that. I know this is a process."
On adjustments heading into the finale… "The power play has to cash in for us. We've got to make some adjustments there. I thought we had some pretty good looks on the first one when they were more aggressive, and then they got a little passive on their second kill – we have to be able to read that and adjust. That has to be a starter for us. The power play has to be good. 5-on-5, we have to be opportunistic and make sure we bury the chances we get."
On JoJo Chobak's 45-save showing… "I thought she was terrific. She gave us a chance early. We can't continue to shoot ourselves in the foot with some of the plays that we made. Some of them are fixable prior – some of the icings, the not respecting the bluelines, those are the things we can do a little bit better to not put ourselves in those situations."
