Penalties plague Huskies, who drop first game of 2022-23 season
BEMIDJI, Minn. – No. 2 St. Cloud State Men's Hockey (6-1-0, 0-0-0 NCHC) suffered its first setback of the season, falling to Bemidji State (3-1-1, 1-0-1 CCHA), 3-1, on Friday evening at the Sanford Center in Bemidji, Minn. The Huskies were plagued by a season-high seven penalties and were outshot, 28-18, in the game.
TURNING POINT
After leading for the first 37 minutes of the game, Bemidji State grabbed momentum of the game after scoring twice in under 90 seconds late in the second period. First, Jere Vaisanen scored on an even strength goal, followed by a Adam Flammang power play goal with 1:09 left in the second period to take a 2-1 lead.
The Huskies failed to score an equalizer goal in the third and final period, as the Huskies were called for three penalties and were outshot, 9-5.

St. Cloud State and Bemidji State will close its home-and-home series on Saturday in St. Cloud. Puck drop form the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. CT on Fox 9 + and KNSI.

- Senior forward Zach Okabe (Okotoks, Alberta) scored his third goal of the season with a first period power play goal.
- Senior goalie Jaxon Castor (Phoenix, Ariz.) made 25 saves in the game and only allowed two goals, one as an even strength goal.
- Okabe scored his third goal of the season, 27th of his career and 65th point of his career. It was also his 10th power goal of his career.
- Sophomore defenseman Jack Peart (Grand Rapids, Minn.) recorded his third assist of the season, and 20th career point.
- Senior forward Jami Krannila (Nokia, Finland) recorded his fifth assist of the season and 73rd career point.
- Castor made 25 saves in the game, the third time this season and seventh time in his career he has recorded 25 or more saves.
