Brinkman Wins Conference Title, St. Cloud State Swim & Dive Finishes Second at NSIC Championships

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – St. Cloud State Women's Swim & Dive finished the 2022 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Swimming and Diving Championships in second place on Saturday in Sioux Falls, S.D. The Huskies crowned one conference champion and had one school record broke on the final day of competition, as graduate student Madison Brinkman (Grey Eagle, Minn.) won the 1-meter dive and freshman Ruthie Lucht (Tempe, Ariz.) broke the school record in the 1650-yard freestyle.

Following the meet, Brinkman was named the NSIC Diver of the Year for the second consecutive season and the NSIC Diver of the Meet for the third straight season. In addition, SCSU's Kayla Deters was voted NSIC Diving Coach of the Year for the sixth straight season.

The Huskies finished the meet with 892 points, trailing only Minnesota State Mankato who score 1,079.5 points.

TOP HUSKIES

The Huskies finished first, second and third in the 1-meter dive, as Brinkman won the conference title with 450.45 points, while graduate student Annaliesa Anderson (West Bend, Wis.) finished runner-up with 429.60 and junior Meredith Matchinsky (St. Cloud, Minn.) finished third with 418.35 points.
Graduate student Alexis Burroughs (Ladysmith, Wis.) finished off an impressive meet with a second-place finish in the 100-yard IM with a time of 57.82.
Lucht set the Huskies' school record in the 1650-yard freestyle, clocking a time of 17:55.11 while finishing third.
Freshman Anna Reschko (Germany) earned a fifth-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 52.32.
In relay events, the St. Cloud State 400-yard freestyle relay team of Burroughs, junior Sydney Gulon (Detroit Lakes, Minn.), Reschko and freshman Meredith Bangs (Muskego, Wis.) finished second with a time of 3:27.38.

UP NEXT

The Husky women now await the announcement of the field for the 2022 NCAA Swim and Dive Championships, which will take place March 9-12 in Greensboro, N.C.
