
Vanden Langenberg garners double All-Region honors

Senior earns D2CCA First Team and NFCA Second Team All-Region status
LEXINGTON, Ky - It was no secret that St. Cloud State University softball's Raven Vanden Lagenberg (Seymour, Wis. / Seymour) was one of the top shortstops in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) throughout the entire 2022 season. On Tuesday, the senior was awarded for her fantastic season, as she was named All-Region by both the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) and Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA). Vanden Langenberg earned First Team All-Region honors from D2CCA and was voted Second Team All-Region in the NFCA.Â
A three-year starter for the Huskies, Vanden Langenberg takes home her third and fourth All-Region honors, as she was named First Team by both organizations following the 2021 season. Additionally, she becomes the first player to repeat as an NFCA All-Region honoree since Abby Velta accomplished the same feat in 2004 and 2005, and the first player in program history to ever receive D2CCA All-Region honors in back to back seasons. As the team's leadoff hitter, Vanden Langenberg led the Huskies in nearly every offensive category, hitting .374 with 61 hits in 163 at bats while slugging .607 during the regular season. The shortstop additionally broke the program record for season and single-game hit by pitches, as she was plunked a record 18 times during the 2022 season.
Vanden Langenberg was named First Team All-Conference earlier this season, as her stats were even better in NSIC play. The shortstop hit a blistering .469 in 30 NSIC games, tallying 45 total hits, including six doubles, a triple and five home runs. She additionally slugged .708 and compiled a .540 on base percentage (OBP) against conference opponents and ranked top-10 in the NSIC in batting average (.469), OBP (.540), OPS (1.248), hits (45), at bats (96), hit by pitch (9) and stolen bases (16) at the conclusion of the regular season. Defensively, Vanden Lagenberg committed just six errors as a shortstop, with 69 putouts in 78 attempts.Â
The NFCA All-Region teams are voted on by the region's head softball coaches, while the D2CCA All-Region team are voted on by the region's sports information directors and athletic communications professionals. First Team honorees for both organizations are automatically eligible for All-America status, which will be voted on in the upcoming weeks. D2CCA and NFCA All-America teams will be announced prior to the Division II National Championship in Denver, Colorado.Â
