Linsey Rachel moves to third all-time in career kills as the Huskies take straight sets
Minot, N.D. – No. 6 St. Cloud State Volleyball used stellar set distribution to put away Minot State in straight sets on Saturday afternoon.
Linsey Rachel recorded career kill No. 1323 in the win, passing Kim Pellman for third all-time in the Huskies' record books. The two-time All-American played just two sets, putting down nine kills and adding seven digs while hitting .727.
Phebie Rossi led all scorers with 11 kills on .688 hitting. Kenzie Foley closed out a strong weekend by double-doubling, sending down 10 kills on .471 hitting with a match-high 13 digs. Sam Zimmerman added eight kills on a .500 attack percentage.
Emma Berran (23 assists) and Allena Shimon (16 assists) picked their spots well while splitting the match at setter, making strong decisions with the ball to keep their hitters terminal. Keely Kurschner scored a career-high five times from the service line as the Huskies defense forced Minot State into 15 errors and limited them to hit just .123 on the afternoon.
Turning Point
A dominant second set put the match out of reach as the Huskies outhit Minot State .636 to .087 in the frame, leading in kills 15-6. SCSU committed just one error on their 22 swings, finding great success going to Linsey Rachel and Phebie Rossi in the middle set.
Quotables – St. Cloud State head coach Chad Braegelmann
"A nice weekend for the Huskies. It's certainly good to come away with a pair of sweeps to open conference play. I thought the women we put in did a decent job of competing. Overall, we did a good job of keeping the ball in control on our side of the court and limiting errors."
On Linsey Rachel continuing to etch her name in Huskies history… "It's fun to see kids that have entered the program as college freshmen mature into young women that exemplify what Huskies Volleyball is all about. She takes care of the little things, she's a great teammate, she's extremely unselfish. She doesn't worry about statistical things, she doesn't seem to be concerned about anything other than winning and helping the team be successful."
On the Huskies' set distribution… "I think both did a really nice job distributing the ball to different hitters, finding the hot hitters and putting them into some good situations. We got them into some one-on-ones, and then the hitters did a good job of taking advantage and putting those away."
