St. Cloud State Women's Basketball Hits Road for a Pair of NSIC South Games

Huskies to take on SMSU & USF
ST. CLOUD, Minn. - The St. Cloud State women's basketball team will hit the road for a pair of NSIC South Division match-ups. The Huskies will travel to take on Southwest Minnesota State Friday, Jan. 20 and Sioux Falls on Saturday, Jan 21.

Friday's game will tip-off at 7:30 p.m. at the R/A Facility in Marshall, MN while Saturday's game is set for 5:30 p.m. at the Stewart Center in Sioux Falls, SD. The NSIC Network will provide the game streams while Steve Linzmeier, the Voice of Huskies Basketball, will provide live audio coverage on the Varsity Network App. Live stats will be available on the home institutions women's basketball schedule page.

A Look Back
Last weekend the Huskies took away a weekend sweep of Winona State and Upper Iowa. The Huskies opened up the game against WSU on a 12-2 run and would hold the Warriors to a scoreless second period to go into the half up 24-11. During the third period, Winona State would outscore St. Cloud 14-13 but the Huskies would still hold a double-digit lead to end the third up 37-25. SCSU would then add 21 more points in the final period and come away with a 58-43 victory.

Against Upper Iowa, the Huskies took a few minutes to get things rolling as they trailed 6-0 to the Peacocks. St. Cloud took the lead back to end the first period up 13-8. UIU would outscore the Huskies 21-15 to make it a one-point game at the end of the second. SCSU went into the locker down 29-28. During the third period, St. Cloud would take the lead back and then hold Upper Iowa scoreless for the next six minutes as SCSU continued to add points to the board. The Huskies would end the third up 44-36. St. Cloud held a 14-point lead in the fourth until a late spark by the Peacocks would cut the Huskies lead to just two points with 32 seconds left. SCSU would execute on their free throws to end the day with a 64-57 victory.

Milestone Moment
Last Friday (Jan. 13) was a milestone moment for St. Cloud State women's basketball head coach Lori Fish as she achieved her 300th career win with the Huskies 58-43 victory over Winona State. Coach Fish is in her 19th season as a collegiate head coach and is in her 15th season as St. Cloud State's head coach and owns a record of 301-210

Theis' Zone
For the third time this season, fifth year senior forward Katrina Theis was named NSIC North Division Player of the Week (1/16). Last weekend Theis averaged 26.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 2.0 steals and shot 22-39 (.564) from the field in SCSU's weekend sweep of WSU and UIU. Additionally, Theis scored 31 points going 11-18 from the field, added nine rebounds, two assists, two blocks and two steals against UIU and 22 points with eight rebounds, and two steals against WSU.

Theis has been holding the top stop in the NSIC for field goal percentage at .566. Additionally, she is fourth in the conference for scoring averaging 16.6 points per game, sixth for rebounding averaging 8.0 per game, and sixth for blocks shots with 1.0 per game.

St. Cloud State Huskies
St. Cloud will enter the weekend 12-4 overall and 9-3 in conference play. The Huskies sit fourth in the conference and second in the north division. Minnesota Duluth holds the top spot in both the overall conference standings and North Division. SCSU sits three games behind UMD.

Defense is St. Cloud's game. The Huskies have the number two scoring defense in the NSIC surrendering 57.0 points to opponents. Katrina Theis leads St. Cloud in scoring, averaging 16.6 points per game and 8.0 rebounds, Jada Eggrebrecht averages 13.4 points per game while Tori Peschel averages 8.3 rebounds per game and has the best assist/turnover ratio in the conference with a 2.5.

Southwest Minnesota State Mustangs
Southwest Minnesota State enters the weekend 11-6 overall and 8-4 in conference play. SMSU is third in the South Division and fifth overall in the conference, one game behind St. Cloud. The Mustangs split their matchups last weekend with an overtime victory against MSU Moorhead and fell to Northern State. SMSU is led by sophomore guard Bri Stoltzman who is averaging 13.4 points per game, 6.4 rebounds, 41 assists, and 32 steals. Additionally, Stoltzman is third in the NSIC for field goal percentage with a .537. Junior guard Sam Wall is averaging 12.8 points per game and 2.4 rebounds. SMSU has the third best scoring offense in the conference averaging 76.2 points over their opponents.

Sioux Falls Cougars
Sioux Falls enter the weekend 6-12 overall and 3-9 in conference play. The Cougars sit seventh in the South Division and 14th overall. USF is coming off a weekend sweep of Northern State and MSU Moorhead. The Cougars are led by sophomore guard Olivia Gamoke who is averaging 10.1 points per game, 4.0 rebounds, 45 assists, and 27 steals. Sophomore guard Brecli Honner also averages 10.1 points per game and 4.1 rebounds.
