St. Cloud State Softball Picked Third to Finish in NSIC Preseason Coaches Poll

Huskies receive three first place votes, tied with WSU for third
ST. CLOUD, Minn. - The St. Cloud State softball team has been selected in a tie with Winona State to finish third in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Preseason Coaches Poll announced by the league on Wednesday morning. Additionally, the Huskies received three first place votes.

St. Cloud State finished fourth in the NSIC last season, going 36-18 with a 23-7 record in conference play to finish just outside the regional pool. The Huskies return nearly the entire heart of their order and three of their top four pitchers from a season ago.

The circle will be anchored by NSIC Pitcher to Watch Lauren Kirchberg, staff ace Trinity Junker, and promising No. 2 starter and true sophomore Emma Eickhoff. St. Cloud's position player group includes fifth-year phenoms Jasmin Estrada, Sydney Trees and Raven Vanden Langenberg along with the pairing of Josey Marquette and Kaitlyn Istvanovich behind the plate. Additionally, the Huskies will have a slew of new faces including transfer athlete Jamie Odlum who will play second base for SCSU. Rounding out the defensive corps is an outfield group led by Holly Weinberger, Tenley Quesnell and Sophie Culhane.

Augustana earned 217 points with ten first place votes to finish first in the poll, Minnesota State earned 208 points with three first place votes for second place, St. Cloud State and Winona State each earned 187 points to tie for third while SCSU received three first place votes. Minnesota Duluth (181), Concordia-St. Paul (157), and Southwest Minnesota State (128) placed fifth, sixth, and seventh while Sioux Falls (127) and Minot State (90) placed eighth and ninth. Upper Iowa and Wayne State tied for tenth with 87 points while Bemidji State (66), Northern State (61), and Minnesota Crookston (47) placed 12th, 13th, and 14th. UMary and MSU Moorhead will round out the poll tying for 15th place with 45 points.
