St. Cloud State Softball Earns Split with No. 24 Warriors

Huskies shut out first place Winona State in game two, snapping six game winless streak against ranked teams
WINONA, Minn. – St. Cloud State Softball (34-12, 16-4 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) earned a split against No. 24 Winona State on Friday afternoon at Maynard R. Johnson Field in Winona. The Huskies dropped game one 4-0 before shutting out the first place Warriors (40-7, 19-3 NSIC), 5-0 in the second game.
The win was SCSU's first ranked win since March 28, 2025, against No. 10 Augustana (snapping a six-game ranked winless streak) and its first ranked shutout since March 5, 2023, against No. 8 Grand Valley State (Mich.).
GAME ONE: WINONA STATE 4, ST. CLOUD STATE 0
The game was tied at zero through four and a half innings with each team recording just two hits apiece up to that point. In the home half of the fifth, the Warrior offense scored all four of their runs on six hits to take a decisive 4-0 lead. In its final two trips on offense, SCSU was unable to register a hit and recorded just one baserunner on a walk.
TOP HUSKIES
The Huskies scored their first runs of the day when junior infielder Brooke Holmes (Savage, Minn.) hit an RBI-double down the left field line and Frechette hit a two-RBI double in the next at-bat, giving SCSU a 3-0 lead after two and a half innings. St. Cloud State added its final two runs of the game in the sixth with a sacrifice bunt from junior outfielder Bree Beck (Lakeville, Minn.) and an RBI-single from Holmes in back-to-back at-bats.
Senior pitcher Macey Clark (Winneconne, Wis.) was incredible in the circle, tossing her second straight shutout and her third in her last four starts, logging seven innings of one-hit ball.

- Holmes recorded her 12th multi-hit game and sixth multi-RBI game of the season which rank second and tied for fourth on the team respectively. It was her 10th double of the season, and she became the fourth Husky to hit 10+ doubles this season. She extended her on-base streak to five games.
- Palmer posted her seventh multi-hit game of the season and scored two runs in a game for the third time.
- Harms tallied her second multi-hit game of the season and hit her fifth double of the season. She extended her on-base streak to a season-best 15 games.

- Weiss notched her team-leading 15th multi-hit game of the season.
- Frechette recorded her ninth multi-RBI game of the season which is second most on the team. She extended her on-base streak to a season-best 13 games.
- Honeycutt hit her 12th double of the season which is ranks second on the team. She extended her on-base streak to five games.
