Roe ties single game home run record, Huskies extend series sweep streak to three
GAME ONE: ST. CLOUD STATE 11, MINNESOTA STATE 9 (8 INN.)
Minnesota State (25-17, 12-6 NSIC) struck first, taking a 1-0 lead with an RBI-double in the second inning, but the Huskies evened the score in the next half inning after a MSU wild pitch allowed a run to score. The Mavericks regained a one-run advantage in their next time up to bat after laying down a sacrifice bunt to score.
SCSU took its first lead of the game in the bottom of the fourth, going up 6-2 after scoring five runs on three hits. The Huskies tied the game on a wild pitch before sophomore catcher/infielder Morgan Honeycutt (Rosemount, Minn.) hit a two-RBI triple and Roe hit a two-run home run in back-to-back at-bats. MSU responded in a big way during the next half inning, taking a 9-6 lead after scoring seven runs on six hits. SCSU gave up an RBI-double and three two-RBI doubles in the frame.
The Huskies later tied the game in the bottom of the sixth with a sacrifice fly from Roe and a two-RBI single from redshirt sophomore utility Kaylee Collins (Lakeville, Minn.). MSU loaded the bases in the seventh with a single and a pair of walks, but were unable to convert, leaving the bases loaded. St. Cloud State went three up, three down, to send the game into extras. After a three up, three down inning of its own to start the eighth inning, Minnesota State conceded a walk-off two run shot from Roe in the next half inning and the Huskies escaped the rollercoaster of a game with an 11-9 victory.
