No. 10 St. Cloud State Women’s Hockey Takes Down (RV) Minnesota State in Game One

Ahola shuts down Mavericks, Wolfe, Gentry and Lind score for the Huskies
MANKATO, Minn. – No. 10/11 St. Cloud State (8-2-0, 2-1-0 WCHA) earned a 3-1 win in game one of a two-game series against (RV) Minnesota State (2-5-0, 0-5-0 WCHA) on Friday evening in Mankato. After falling behind early in the first period, the Huskies buckled down and responded with three unanswered goals for to record its third consecutive victory.
The team was led by fantastic goaltending and the the team's captain leadership. Despite allowing her first goal of the season in six starts, senior goaltender Sanni Ahola (Helsinski, Finland) earned the victory in net, making 14 saves. Junior defender Grace Wolfe (Owatonna, Minn.) opened scoring for the Huskies early in the first following Mankato's goal, while senior forward Emma Gentry (Alpena, Mich.) rounded out scoring late in the first period. Fifth-year forward captain Taylor Lind (Shaunavon, Saskatchewan) would find the back of the net for the first time this season in the second period, rounding out the scoring at 3-1.
The final frame would see no goals coming from either team but that does not mean it was not action packed. Each team would take two penalties but all four were killed. The Huskies had 19 shots, seven of which made it on goal.

NOTABLES
- The Huskies went 1-of-4 on the power play following Lind's goal and improved to 7-0-0 on the season when scoring on the man advantage.
- SCSU peppered the Mavericks all night, leading the shots-on-goal 31-15, the ninth time in 10 games it has outshot its opponent.
- Ahola improved to 5-0-0 on the season and even though she surrendered her first goal allowed of the season, her goals-against-average and save percentage numbers remain impressive at 0.20 GAA and .989 S%.
- Gentry earned the first star of the game after scoring a goal and adding an assist for a two-point night, her second multi-point game of the season.
- Gentry's goal was the game-winner, her 10th career game-winning goal as she scored her 38th career goal and 20th career assist for 58 career points.
- Lind found the back of the net for the first time this season as she recorded her 24th career goal and 70th career point.
- Wolfe scored her second goal of the season and her fourth career score.
- Sophomore forward Avery Farrell (Rogers, Minn.), fifth-year forward Klára Hymlárová (Opava, Czech Republic) and freshman Alice Sauriol (Serbrooke, Quebec) added assists in the game.
