SCSU sets new program record for wins in a season, advances to and will host NSIC semifinals
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – St. Cloud State Women's Soccer (14-3-2, 10-2-2 NSIC) scored in the 10th minute and held on to win 1-0 over Minnesota Duluth (6-7-6, 5-4-5 NSIC) in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate (NSIC) Tournament Quarterfinals. With the win, the Huskies advance to the NSIC semifinals for the fourth time in program history after previous trips in 2009, 2011 and 2019. As the No. 1 seed, St. Cloud State and Husky Stadium will play host to the NSIC Tournament semifinals and championship game, marking the first time in program history SCSU has hosted the final four.
In the midst of many program first and records set in 2023, the Huskies set a new program-best for victories in a season with its 14th win on Monday.
The Huskies scored quickly in the contest, as a set-piece corner kick was the difference in the 10th minute of the game. Sophomore midfielder Brooke Quam (Lakeville, Minn.) took the corner kick and played the ball into the box for freshman defender Grace Olson (West Des Moines, Iowa), who headed the ball past the Bulldog goaltender for the score.
The Huskies were able to hold off a desperate UMD team in the second half, as the Husky back line freshman goaltender Jaylee Strickland (Columbus, Ohio) turned away each Bulldog attempt to equalize the score.
